A business whose turnover is above Rs. 20 lakh has to register for GST. Also, some special businesses are also required to register for GST. Every registered taxpayer is issued a GST Registration Certificate in Form GST REG-06. If you are a registered taxpayer you can also download the certificate from the GST portal. The registration certificate is available for downloading only on the GST Portal. The government does not issue any physical certificate

3rd April 2020

The time limit for completion or compliance has been extended to 30th June 2020, where the time limit falls between the period from 20th March 2020 to 29th June 2020. It does not include cases where a person needs to obtain GST registration under section 25 (Normal registration) and 27 (Registration as a casual taxable person/ non-resident taxable person) of the CGST Act.

7th March 2019

The CBIC has notified that GST registration is not required if annual turnover is below Rs 40 lakhs only in case of a supplier of goods except:
a) Cases of compulsory GST registration
b) Icecream, edible ice, pan masala, tobacco and its substitutes
c) Those making sales within States of Arunachal Pradesh,
Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura & Uttarakhand
d) Choosing Voluntary registration

The notification will be effective from 1st April 2019.

Also, furnish statement in form ITC-03 within 60 days of commencement of the FY 2018-19 to declare the ITC claim that has to be reversed on inputs/capital goods in stock, in semi-finished or in finished goods.


Here is a step-by-step process to download GST Registration Certificate:

Step 1 – Login to GST Portal.

Step 2 – Go to ‘Services’ > ‘User Services’ > ‘View/ Download Certificate.

Step 3 – Click on the ‘Download’ icon.

The certificate contains all the details of the business. On the first page, basic details like name, address, and date of registration of the business are displayed.

The second page is ‘Annexure A’ which contains details of any additional place of business.
