In brief, PAN is a unique 10 digit identification number allotted to every person who has applied for it and it is introduced to track financial transactions taxable in nature. PAN card along with serving as identity proof also assists in checking on tax evasion.
But what if you, being a PAN holder, have lost your PAN card/ do not have it with you but need the number for some purpose and also do not remember the PAN? Do not panic. Income tax department has provided an alternative for you to get your PAN with the help of certain personal details provided by you while applying for PAN. Here is how you get to know your PAN.
Step 1. Visit here
Step 2. Enter your first name, middle name, surname as per PAN application
Step 3. Choose the Status i.e., whether individual, Hindu Un-divided family, Association of persons, Body of Individuals, Company, Government, Artificial Juridical Person, Local Authority, Firm or Trust
Step 4. Choosing ‘Gender’ is optional as it is specific only to individuals
Step 5. Enter Date of birth
Step 6. Provide the active mobile number as OTP will be sent to this mobile number and click on ‘submit’
Step 7. Enter OTP sent to your mobile number and click on ‘Validate’
Step 8. PAN, Jurisdiction and status of PAN would appear on the screen
