Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique number that acts as an identity proof of residents in India. It is unique to each resident and can be obtained voluntarily by providing basic biometric and demographic data to the UIDAI or the Unique Identification Authority of India. However, one must note that Aadhaar is just proof of residence and not citizenship of India.
There can be many reasons to change your address in Aadhaar, such as relocating, spelling, or pincode errors. Although demographic and biometric details can only be updated at Aadhaar registered centres, you can update only your address online without visiting any centre. The form to update your Aadhaar address is available on the myAdhaar portal, if you are choosing the online mode of updation. Alternatively, you can fill out a physical form and get it updated at Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
The authority recommends updating your Aadhaar with biometric and demographic details every 10 years. The detailed process for Aadhaar address update online is given below:
Step 1: Login to myAadhaar portal by entering your Aadhaar number, captcha code and OTP.
Step 2: After logging in, select the option ‘Address Update’ tab.
Step 3: On the next tab, click on ‘Update Aadhaar Online’ tab.
Step 4: Read the guidelines and click the ‘Proceed to Update Aadhaar’ button.
Step 5: Select ‘Address’ and click ‘Proceed to Update Aadhaar’.
Step 6: In the online form, the current address will be displayed. Scroll down and enter ‘Care of’ (father's name or husband's name), enter the new address, select the post office, select the proof of address document from the ‘Valid Supporting Document Type’ dropdown list, upload the document and click ‘Next’.
Step 7: Preview the details and proceed to payment. Pay the non-refundable fees of Rs.50.
A Service Request Number (SRN) will be generated. Save it for tracking status later.

You must also keep your proof of identity (POI), which can be your Passport, PAN card, Voter ID, Ration card, etc.
You cannot change the address on your Aadhaar card without valid address proof. Keep at least a scanned copy of the proof of address document before filling out the address change form on the myAadhaar portal. Once you have submitted your Aadhaar update application, you will receive a URN. You can track the status of your request by following the below steps:
Step 1: Visit the UIDAI website.
Step 2: Click on ‘Check Aadhaar Update Status’ option under ‘My Aadhaar’.
Step 3: Select ‘URN’. Enter the URN and the captcha code and click ‘Submit’.

Step 1: Visit the UIDAI website and move to ‘My Aadhaar’.
Step 2: Click on ‘Download Aadhaar' option under the ‘Get Aadhaar’ tab.
Step 3: Select Aadhaar Number, enter the Aadhaar number, captcha code and click on ‘Send OTP’.
Step 5: Enter the OTP that you received on your mobile number, select if you want a masked Aadhaar and click the ‘Verify & Download’ button to download a PDF of your e-Aadhaar card.
