As per the Reserve Bank of India's calendar, every private and public sector bank will remain closed on National and Government holidays. Again, Government bank holidays in India are categorised as State and Central Government holidays. Moreover, the Negotiable Instruments Act, of 1881, proposes off days on banks' closing accounts and real-time gross settlement holidays.
Apart from these, there are weekly holidays on Sundays and alternative Saturdays. Usually, the second and fourth Saturdays are counted as bank holidays. Scroll down for the complete list of bank holidays in 2023!

The cultural and regional diversity of India brings in vibrant festivals across the country throughout the year. Apart from the three national holidays, i.e., Republic Day, Independence Day, and Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, we also have holidays to celebrate cultural festivals. Banks remain closed on the respective bank holidays as mentioned above in the bank holiday list 2023.

1 of April marks the yearly closing of bank accounts. Thus, it is obtained as a holiday for banks every year. In 2023, the 1 April is on Friday. Thus, there's a long weekend, considering Ugadi on 2 April 2023, Saturday, and 3 April 2023 being Sunday.
Banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays across the country, irrespective of states and union territories.
There’s a regional bank holiday on Dhanteras. Banks across the country do not remain closed on Dhanteras.
Banks remain closed on Mahashivratri. However, this year the occasion is on 18 February 2023, which is a Saturday. Thus, banks will remain closed on the third Saturday of February as well. Technically, banks are closed on all Saturdays in February 2023.
