About HDFC Tax Saver

HDFC Tax Saver is an equity-linked saving scheme (ELSS) that constitutes equity funds and equity-related funds portfolio. The aim of this fund is to generate capital appreciation and enable investors to avail deduction under Section 80C.

Pros & Cons of HDFC Tax Saver

The fund is managed by experienced managers with stable investment team. It predominantly, that is, around 70-80% invests in large-cap stocks and rest small/mid caps. The short-term investment in this fund may lead to underperformance, but long-term will give good results.

i) Inception / Launch date

This fund was launched on 31 March 1996 by HDFC Asset Management

ii) Risk level

Risk is moderately high as fund’s performance is driven by the market’s wide fluctuations

iii) Redemption

Being an ELSS tax saver fund, it can be redeemed after a minimum lock-in period of 3 years, under normal circumstances, the fund house will dispatch the redemption proceeds to the respective bank account within 10 business days from date of receipt of the request.

iv) Fund Manager

Vinay Kulkarni is an experienced fund manager who has been managing this fund since November 2006.

v) Entry / Exit load

Exit load for this fund is 0%. However, an expense ratio of 2.11% will be applied every year.

Tax benefits of investing in HDFC Tax Saver

The fund has a 3-year lock-in period. At the time of sale, it will be considered as long-term capital gains. Gains over and above Rs 1 lakh, made on the sale of units after 1 year from the date of allotment will be taxable at the rate of 10% (without indexation).
