About ICICI Prudential Value Discovery Fund

The Scheme is an open ended equity scheme following a value investment strategy. The investment objective of the Scheme is to generate returns through a combination of dividend income and capital appreciation by investing primarily in a well-diversified value equities.

Pros & Cons of ICICI Prudential Value Discovery Fund

  1. This is a multi-cap fund that invests in companies available at a fair or below-intrinsic value. In the current liquidity-driven market, it is imperative that momentum stocks with expensive valuations are avoided. Hence, a scheme of such nature with a clear selection parameter is good for investors especially if the markets turn bearish for a sustained period of time.
  2. The Scheme has clearly beaten its benchmark and category over 5 and 10 year horizon however has performed below on both counts in 1 and 3 year horizon.

Fund Information and Statistics of ICICI Prudential Value Discovery Fund

i) Inception / Launch date

The Scheme was launched by ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund on 16 August 2004. The Scheme is benchmarked against S&P BSE 500 TRI Index.

ii) Risk level

Being an equity scheme, it is a moderately high risk proposition and investor should stay invested long term for benefits. The fund has followed up valuation-conscious approach for stock selection. Because of more concentration on valuation part, the fund bears a slight risk of underperforming in momentum driven and growth oriented markets.

iii) Redemption

The minimum redemption amount is Rs 500 or all units where the amount is below Rs 500.

iv) Fund Manager

The Scheme is being managed by Mr Mrinal Singh who is managing the Fund since February 2011. He is associated with ICICI Prudential AMC since June 2008.

v) Entry / Exit load

1% exit load is charged if the units are redeemed within 1 year from the date of allotment of units, no exit load is charged beyond 1 year. No entry load is charged by the Scheme.
