Aapki Beti Hamari Beti Scheme Details – Online Apply, Eligibility and Benefits

The Haryana state government launched the Aapki Beti Hamari Beti scheme to increase the status of a girl child in the family and society. The government wants to change the mindsets of the people concerning a girl child. It focuses on giving a girl child the right to birth and survival. This scheme is implemented in both rural and urban areas.

Objectives of Aapki Beti Hamari Beti

• To ensure proper rearing of girl children.
• To change the societal attitude towards the birth of a girl child.
• To improve the child sex ratio in the state.
• To improve enrolment and retention of girl children in schools, promote girl education and assist the girls in undertaking income-generating activities.
• To eliminate the girl-child mortality rate and child marriages.
• To finance the economic empowerment of people belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.

Benefits of Aapki Beti Hamari Beti

• The first girl child born on or after 22 January 2015 to an SC and BPL family is given Rs.21,000. The sum of Rs.21,000 is invested with Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) in the name of a girl child.
• The government will invest Rs.21,000 with LIC for all families upon the birth of a second girl child born after 22 January 2015, irrespective of religion, caste, creed, number of sons and income.
• All families will get Rs.5,000 every year for five years upon the birth of the second girl child born on or before 21 January 2015, irrespective of religion, caste and creed.
• The government will invest Rs.21,000 with LIC for all families upon the birth of the third girl child born in any family on or after 24 August 2015.
• The government will invest Rs.21,000 with LIC for all families upon the birth of twin girl children born on or after 22 January 2015, irrespective of religion, caste, creed, number of sons and income.
• Upon attaining 18 years of age, the girl child will be paid the amount invested in LIC.
• All families will get Rs.2,500 every year for five years upon the birth of twin girls or multiple girl children born on or before 21 January 2015.
• All girl children are given an Aadhaar number to provide the benefits offered under the scheme. The Aadhaar number of parents is also accepted during the registration of the birth of the girl child.

Eligibility of Aapki Beti Hamari Beti

• Parents should be in the domicile of Haryana state. At least one of the parents, along with the girl child, should be residing in Haryana.
• The family must belong to the EWS (Economically Weaker Section).
• Pregnant women should be registered at the Anganwadi centre.
• The birth of the girl children should be registered. The parents should ensure proper immunisation of the girl children and produce the immunisation record (as per the age of the girl child) at the time of receiving payment.
• Girls should be enrolled in schools.
• The parents should not be taxpayers. 
• The parents should not receive a pension or financial assistance from the government/local bodies.

Application Process of Aapki Beti Hamari Beti

The parents can get the application for this scheme from any Anganwadi centres or in the offices of the child development project in rural and urban areas. In urban areas, application forms are also available in the offices of civil surgeons. 

The filled-in application form should be submitted to the Anganwadi workers or health staff of the concerned area along with the documents for obtaining the benefits of this scheme. The parents of girl children can also download the application form online by visiting the official website of the Department of Women and Child Development. 

The process to download and submit the application online is as follows:

• Visit the website of the Department of Women and Child Development and click on the ‘Schemes’ tab and select the ‘Schemes for Children’ option from the drop-down box.
• On the next page, click on the ‘ABHB’ option under the ‘Schemes for Children’ heading. 
• A new page will open. Scroll down and click on ‘Application form for Aapki Beti Hamari Beti Scheme’.
• The application form will open. Download the form and take a printout. 
• Fill out the application form with essential details, attach the required documents and submit it to the nearest Anganwadi centre or health centre.

• Identity proof (Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID, driving license).
