Benefits Of Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme

  • Monthly supply of free rice

Under this scheme, every eligible person gets 10 kg of rice free of cost every month. This helps families struggling to make ends meet have at least one essential food item regularly stocked at home.

  • Helps families become self-reliant

Families that don’t have to spend money on basic food grains can redirect their limited income towards other essential needs, like sending kids to school, getting medical help, or learning new skills. In the long run, this kind of support can help people become independent.

  • Improves overall quality of life

The scheme aims to reduce hunger and improve nutrition by guaranteeing a supply of rice. For families living below the poverty line, this can make a real difference in their daily lives and health.

  • Intended beneficiaries

The scheme is specifically designed for families in the Below-Poverty-Line (BPL) category. These are households that often skip meals or can’t afford necessities. This initiative brings them some relief and stability.

  • Validation for BPL cardholders

To receive the benefits, families must show a valid BPL ration card. The system uses this card to confirm you're eligible and track the distribution of rice each month.

Eligibility Criteria for Anna Bhagya Scheme

  • The applicant must be a resident of Karnataka.
  • Applicant’s age must be above 18 years.
  • The beneficiary must fall under the BPL category or have an Antyodaya/Priority Household Ration Card linked to the Aadhaar card.
  • If any member of the beneficiary’s family works in a government organisation, the beneficiary will no longer be eligible for the scheme.

Anna Bhagya Scheme DBT and Rice Distribution Update

Due to a rice supply issue, the Karnataka government initially provided ₹34 per kg as cash through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into beneficiaries’ accounts instead of giving the additional 5 kg of rice. However, as of February 2025, the state has restarted in-kind distribution of the full 10 kg rice quota.

How to Check DBT Status

If you want to check the status of the DBT amounts:

Step 1: Go to the official Karnataka Food Department website.

Step 2: Click on the ‘e-Services’ section from the homepage.

Step 3:  From the list that shows up, select ‘e-Status’ and then click on ‘DBT Status’.

Step 4: Choose your district, type in your ration card number and the captcha.

Step 5: Click ‘Go’ to view the transaction details.

How to Avail Benefits Under the Anna Bhagya Scheme

Anyone with a BPL or Anna Antyodaya/PHH Card can claim the benefits of this government scheme. Under this scheme, you need to apply anywhere to get free rice at the nearest ration shop in your area with your ration card. Complete the biometric authentication process by placing your thumb on the biometric machine. After such verification, the machine automatically registers the names of family members linked with the beneficiary.

The number of beneficiaries decides the quantity of rice a beneficiary is eligible for. The family members of the eligible applicant will receive rice free of cost.
