Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthaan Yojana (MKUY)

The Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri. Nitish Kumar, in April 2018, introduced the Bihar Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthaan Yojana (MKUY). The Bihar government launched this scheme for the empowerment of girls residing in the state. The Government of Bihar has initiated this scheme to promote women’s social and economic empowerment. 

The Bihar MKUY was started to encourage the girls of the state to pursue higher education. Under this scheme, an amount of Rs. 94,100 is provided to the girl child from birth till graduation in instalments. This scheme will provide benefits to about 1.60 crore girls in the state of Bihar. It also provides funds for purchasing sanitary napkins and buying uniforms for the girls.

Objective of Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthaan Yojana

The main objective of Bihar MKUY is to provide encouragement and financial assistance to the girls of the state for pursuing higher education. It provides financial assistance to all those parents who are unable to raise funds to teach their daughters. 

The Bihar MKUY aims to secure the future of the girls by encouraging them to pursue higher education and thus become self-reliant. It also aims to inspire girls towards pursuing education by providing them financial help right from their birth till they finish graduation, through which the girls will have a better life. 

The objectives of the MKUY scheme are as follows:

• Eradicate female feticide
• Reduce infant mortality rate
• Enhance girl education
• Curb child marriage

Eligibility Criteria Under Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthaan Yojana

The following girls are eligible to obtain benefits under the Bihar MKUY:

• The girl should be a resident of Bihar state.
• Only two girls from one family are eligible to apply for this scheme.
• The girl should belong to the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) of the society.
• Every girl of the state is eligible irrespective of caste or religion. 
• The girl’s parents must not be working as a Government Employee.

Benefits Of Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthaan Yojana

The Bihar MKUY provides assistance right from the birth of a girl till she gets graduated. The government increased the amount provided for the girls’ education from Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 94,100 from February 2021 onwards. The benefits provided at every stage of the girl child from her birth till her graduation is as follows:

Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthaan Yojana Application Procedure

The applicants can apply for the MKUY by visiting the Anganwadi, Right to Public Service Act (RTPS) counter or Health Center after the birth of the girl child. The applicants have to take the application form for the registration under the Bihar MKUY scheme, fill it and submit it to the Anganwadi, Right to Public Service Act (RTPS) counter or Health Center. 

Subsequently, upon acceptance of the application and registration of the applicant under this scheme, the benefit amount will be received by him/her at the Anganwadi centre or RTPS.

The online application process for MKUY is as follows:

• The applicants should apply for the Bihar MKUY scheme through the Official website. (For 10th, 12th and graduation Level)
• The applicant will have to choose the link applicable, i.e. For 10th passed, or 12th passed, or graduation passed link and log in by filling in the registration number and passing marks. 
• Upon logging in, the applicant will have to fill in all the details in the MKUY application form. 
• After filling the MKUY application form, the applicant needs to attach the required documents along with the MKUY application form and submit it.

Documents Required For Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthaan Yojana

The applicants under the MKUY have to submit the following documents along with the application form: 

• Identity Proof: Aadhar Card, Driving License, PAN Card, Voter ID Card, etc.
• Address Proof: Utility bill, Aadhar Card,  Property tax bill, Valid Passport, etc.
• Bank account documents
• Certificate of class 10th and 12th
• Recent passport size photos
• Income certificate
• Financial background of applicants (EWS Certificate)
