The Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri. Nitish Kumar, in April 2018, introduced the Bihar Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthaan Yojana (MKUY). The Bihar government launched this scheme for the empowerment of girls residing in the state. The Government of Bihar has initiated this scheme to promote women’s social and economic empowerment.
The Bihar MKUY was started to encourage the girls of the state to pursue higher education. Under this scheme, an amount of Rs. 94,100 is provided to the girl child from birth till graduation in instalments. This scheme will provide benefits to about 1.60 crore girls in the state of Bihar. It also provides funds for purchasing sanitary napkins and buying uniforms for the girls.
The main objective of Bihar MKUY is to provide encouragement and financial assistance to the girls of the state for pursuing higher education. It provides financial assistance to all those parents who are unable to raise funds to teach their daughters.
The Bihar MKUY aims to secure the future of the girls by encouraging them to pursue higher education and thus become self-reliant. It also aims to inspire girls towards pursuing education by providing them financial help right from their birth till they finish graduation, through which the girls will have a better life.

The Bihar MKUY provides assistance right from the birth of a girl till she gets graduated. The government increased the amount provided for the girls’ education from Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 94,100 from February 2021 onwards. The benefits provided at every stage of the girl child from her birth till her graduation is as follows:

The applicants can apply for the MKUY by visiting the Anganwadi, Right to Public Service Act (RTPS) counter or Health Center after the birth of the girl child. The applicants have to take the application form for the registration under the Bihar MKUY scheme, fill it and submit it to the Anganwadi, Right to Public Service Act (RTPS) counter or Health Center.
Subsequently, upon acceptance of the application and registration of the applicant under this scheme, the benefit amount will be received by him/her at the Anganwadi centre or RTPS.
