Savitribai Phule Scholarship: Eligibility, Documents Required, Benefits, Amount

Savitribai Phule Scholarship for Vimukta Jati Nomadic Tribes (VJNT) and Special Backward Classes (SBC) is a scheme by the Maharashtra government for girls studying in the 5th to 10th standard. Under the Savitribai Phule Scholarship, financial assistance is provided to only girl students studying in the 5th to 10th classes belonging to the minority communities (VJNT, SBC and SC) in Maharashtra. The Social Justice and Special Assistance Department, Government of Maharashtra, implements this scheme.

Objectives of Savitribai Phule Scholarship

The objective of the Savitribai Phule Scholarship is to encourage the enrolment of girl students belonging to the VJNT or SBC community and continue their schooling. It initially provided benefits to only girls studying in the 5th to 7th standard. The government introduced this scheme for the girls from VJNT or SBC communities studying in the 8th to 10th standard from the academic year 2003-04. 

The scholarship provided under this scheme helps girls from lower-income families and reserved communities continue their schooling. It supports girl students belonging to backward classes by giving them financial support to enroll themselves in schools and complete their education. 

Eligibility For Savitribai Phule Scholarship

• Girl students should belong to VJNT or SBC category.
• Girl students should be studying in 5th to 10th standard in a recognised school.
• There is no income or mark limit to receive benefits.

Benefits of Savitribai Phule Scholarship

• For girls belonging to VJNT and SBC community and studying in 5th to 7th standard - Scholarship of Rs.60 per month for 10 months.
• For girls belonging to VJNT and SBC community and studying in 8th to 10th standard - Scholarship of Rs.100 per month for 10 months.

Savitribai Phule Scholarship Application Process

The application process for this scheme is paperless. The eligible student or her parents are not required to submit the application. The headmaster of the school will submit the list of VJNT and SBC girl students studying in 5th to 7th standard to the concerned District Social Welfare Officer, Zilla Parishad of the respective district, for sanction of scholarship under this scheme.

The headmaster of the school will submit the list of VJNT and SBC girl students studying in 8th to 10th standard to the district’s concerned Assistant Commissioner of Social Welfare for sanction of scholarship under this scheme.

Documents Required for SBS

The headmaster of the school will submit the following documents to the respective authorities for the grant of the scholarship:

• Marksheet of the previous examination.
• Caste Certificate.
• Aadhar card.
• Copy of bank passbook.

• Girl students studying in 5th to 7th standard or their parents can contact the District Social Welfare Zilla Parishad of the respective district or the headmaster of the school.
• Girl students studying in 8th to 10th standard or their parents can contact the Assistant Commissioner of Social Welfare of the respective district or the headmaster of the school.
