Indian stock market will have a total of 15 holidays in 2023, more than 2022, which had 13 holidays. Some months have no holiday, such as February, and some have the highest number of holidays, such as April. Here, you will get a complete list of stock market holidays in 2023.
1 January 2023 was a Sunday. The Indian share market usually remains closed on Saturdays and Sundays. So, the stock market was not open on 1 January this year.
“Muhurat” translates into auspicious time, and Indian traders follow this trend of Muhurat trading on Diwali every year. This is a one-hour duration that traders consider to be favourable for trading for equity investments. Stock exchanges specify this hour every year.

There are a total of 18 stock market holidays 2023 if the Saturdays and Sundays are included in the list. There are no holidays in February and July.
As per the guidelines, if a holiday overlaps with the weekly expiry of the equity options contract, the stock market will shift the expiry date to the next working day following the holiday.
On settlement holidays, the stock market remains open, but any settlement of trade does not take place as per the regular T+2 cycle. Depositories (NSDL or CDSL) or banks stay closed on that day.
