Birth certificate download in Uttar Pradesh is available through official government portals managed under different systems depending on the place of registration. The download method depends on where the birth was registered. Uttar Pradesh has different portals for urban areas, rural registrations, and legacy records.
Method | Portal | Applicable Records | Access Requirement |
| e-Nagarsewa | e-nagarsewaup.gov.in | Urban municipal areas (Nagar Nigam) | Acknowledgement No. / Registration No. / Name + DOB |
| CRS Portal | dc.crsorgi.gov.in | Rural areas and births from 2024 onwards | Registration details, DOB, district |
| e-District UP | edistrict.up.gov.in | Legacy and administrative records | Login via eSathi, Registration No. |
The portal used for downloading a UP birth certificate depends on where the birth was registered, not the current place of residence.
The e-Nagarsewa portal is used for births registered under Nagar Nigam and urban local bodies across Uttar Pradesh. It covers cities such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Agra, Prayagraj, and others. Searches can be done using registration number, acknowledgement number, or basic birth details.
The CRS portal is used for rural registrations and newer records from gram panchayats and rural health centres. It is also used for hospital registrations in many districts. This system mainly supports records from recent years and continues to expand coverage across UP.
The e-District UP portal provides administrative access to older birth records across all 75 districts of UP. It integrates with eSathi login and is helpful when records are unavailable on other portals.
For births registered with the Nagar Nigam or urban local bodies, the e-Nagarsewa portal is used to download birth certificates.
Step 1: Open the Birth Certificate section from the main menu of the e-Nagarsewa portal.
Step 2: Select the option for searching or downloading birth certificates under citizen services.
Step 3: Enter the Acknowledgement Number or Registration Number. If not available, use the advanced search option by entering the city name and date of birth.
Step 4: Enter the captcha/security code shown on the screen and proceed with the search.
Step 5: Verify the details displayed against the original record carefully.
Step 6: Select the correct entry and download the birth certificate in PDF format.
Note: The downloaded certificate is digitally signed and legally valid. A QR code is printed on the certificate for independent verification.
For rural registrations, gram panchayats, and recent hospital births, the CRS portal is used to access and download records.
Step 1: Click on the birth certificate download or track record option on the homepage of the CRS Portal.
Step 2: Enter the required details including district, date of birth, and registration number or hospital details.
Step 3: Verify the information displayed.
Step 4: Select the correct record and click Download to save the digitally signed PDF.
Note: For births registered through the gram panchayat, the head of household receives a registration acknowledgement at the time of registration. This number is needed for a direct search.
The search fields required vary by portal, but the following details are commonly needed across all three platforms.
Search Field | e-Nagarsewa | CRS Portal | e-District UP |
| Registration / Acknowledgement No. | Required (preferred) | Required (preferred) | Required |
| Name of Child | Optional (advanced search) | Optional | Optional |
| Date of Birth | Required for advanced search | Required | Required |
| District / City | Required for advanced search | Required | Required |
| Parent Name | Optional | Optional | Optional |
If the registration number is not available, name and date of birth-based search is generally used. On CRS, district and DOB are the minimum required fields for search.
In Uttar Pradesh, a birth certificate can be issued without a child’s name at the time of registration, and the name can be added later.
A 'No Record Found' result on any UP portal is most commonly caused by one of the following reasons.
For older records, especially before digitisation, online search may not return results. In such cases, the local Registrar of Births and Deaths office must be contacted.
Birth certificates downloaded from e-Nagarsewa, CRS, and e-District UP portals are digitally signed and valid under the Information Technology Act, 2000.
The UP birth certificate can be downloaded online through e-Nagarsewa, CRS, or e-District portals based on the registration type and location. The process is simple, digitally secure, and widely used across urban and rural areas in Uttar Pradesh for official documentation needs.
