Form 26AS is a consolidated tax credit statement that can be downloaded from the income tax portal or TRACES website. Form 26AS is important for filing Income Tax Return and verifying TDS deduction, and downloading Form 26AS is a simple process that can be completed in just a few steps.
Taxpayers can easily download the Form 26AS for the required Assessment Year from the Income Tax Portal through the following steps:
Step 1: Visit the e-filing website
Step 2: Log in by entering your user ID. Your user ID can be either your PAN or Aadhaar number.
Step 3: Enter the password and continue.
Step 4: After you log into the portal, Go to ‘e-file’ and click on ‘Income Tax Returns’ and select ‘View Form 26AS’ in the drop-down.
Step 5: You will now be redirected to the TRACES website. Select the box on the screen and click on ‘Proceed’.
Step 6: Click on the link at the bottom of the page, click ‘View Tax Credit (Form 26AS)’ to view your Form 26AS
Step 7: Now choose the relevant “Assessment Year” and select HTML under “View As”.
Step 8: Now click on “View/Download and then “Export as PDF”. Your Form 26AS will be now downloaded in PDF format.
Note: Form 26AS is not a password encrypted file and can be viewed directly without any password requirements.
PAN holders can view and download their Form 26AS using their net banking account without having to log into the Income Tax e-filing Portal. However, your PAN number must be linked to your bank account to access this feature. Simply log in to your net banking account, navigate to the tax credit statement or Form 26AS section, and you will be able to view and download your Form 26AS directly.
However, this can only be done through authorised banks.
