The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) registration/license is a mandatory license required by all entities involved in food businesses in Coimbatore. The FSSAI is an independent organisation established under the Food Safety and Standard (FSS) Act, 2006, to regulate and establish standards for food products in India.
The Office of the Commissioner of Food Safety Tamil Nadu is responsible for implementing the provisions of the FSS Act and rules in Tamil Nadu. Thus, the Office of the Commissioner of Food Safety Tamil Nadu issues FSSAI Basic Registration and FSSAI State Registration to all Food Business Operators (FBOs) in Coimbatore.
Types of FSSAI Registration in Coimbatore
There are three types of FSSAI registration in Coimbatore based on the annual turnover and production capacity, which are as follows:
FSSAI Basic Registration: All FBOs whose annual turnover is below Rs.12 lakh should apply for FSSAI Basic Registration in Form-A. The Commissioner of Food Safety Tamil Nadu notifies the designated officer who grants this registration.
FSSAI State Registration: All FBOs whose annual turnover is above Rs.12 lakh but below Rs.20 crore should apply for FSSAI State Registration in Form-B. The Office of the Commissioner of Food Safety Tamil Nadu grants this registration.
FSSAI Central Registration: All FBOs whose annual turnover is above Rs.2 crore should apply for FSSAI Central Registration in Form-B. The Central FSSAI authority grants this registration.
Coimbatore FSSAI Registration Procedure
The online procedure to obtain FSSAI registration/license is as follows:
- Go to the FoSCoS portal.
- Scroll down on the homepage and click the ‘Apply License/Registration’ option.
- Select the state as ‘Tamil Nadu’ from the dropdown list.
- Scroll down and select the applicable option, i.e. ‘Trade/Retail’, ‘Manufacturer’, or ‘Food Services’ relevant to the food business.
- Select the food business turnover or production capacity and click the ‘Proceed’ button.
- On the next page, select the option of ‘Click here to apply for registration for all businesses’ or ‘Click here to apply for State License for all businesses’.
- Enter the details in the registration form, upload the documents and pay the fees. Next, click on the ‘Submit’ button.
- The FSSAI registration form will be submitted, and the central/state FSSAI authorities will inspect it. The FSSAI authorities will issue the FSSAI registration or license when they are satisfied that the applicant meets the requirements of the FSS Act.
Documents for Coimbatore FSSAI Registration
The documents to be submitted for FSSAI Basic Registration are as follows:
- Photo identity proof.
- Address proof of food business.
- Proof of business premises possession.
- Food business constitution certificate.
- Details of the nature of business.
- List of food articles/products manufactured or processed.
The documents to be submitted for FSSAI State License are as follows:
- Filled and signed Form-B.
- Address proof of food business.
- The layout of the food processing unit.
- Proof of business premises possession.
- Food business constitution certificate.
- Name, number, horsepower used, record and the installed capacity of equipment and machinery.
- List and contact details of members, partners, directors or executives business.
- ID proof and address proof of the partners, proprietors, directors or authorised signatories.
- Analysis report of water used in food products from a recognised or public health laboratory.
- Authority letter from the manufacturer nominated the responsible person with address and name details.
- NOC from the manufacturer.
- List of food items proposed to be processed or manufactured.
- Food safety management system plan or certificate.
FSSAI Registration Fees in Coimbatore
The fee for FSSAI Basic Registration in Coimbatore is Rs.100.
The fees for FSSAI State License differ on the size of the business, which is stated below:
- Fees for a manufacturer with a 1MT-2MT production capacity per day or 10,001 to 50,000 litres of milk per day – Rs.5000.
- Fees for a manufacturer with 101 kgs or litres to 1 MT production capacity per day or 501 to 10,000 litres of milk per day – Rs.3000.
- Fees for three and four-star hotels – Rs.5000.
- Fees for one, two and three-star hotels or hotels without a star rating by the Ministry of Tourism (HRACC) – Rs.2000.
- Fees for food service providers, including canteens (schools, offices, colleges, institutions), clubs, banquet halls with food catering arrangements, caterers, restaurants/boarding houses, food vendors like Dabba wallas, etc. – Rs.2000.
- Fees for wholesalers, retailers and distributors – Rs.2000.
An FSSAI registration or license is mandatory to manufacture, distribute, export, import and store food particles in Coimbatore. It is also required for opening and operating a food business in Coimbatore. A penalty will be imposed on the FBOs who do not obtain the FSSAI registration/license. Thus, all food business operators in Coimbatore have to obtain FSSAI registration and follow the standards laid down by FSS Act and rules.
