What Is Digital Voter ID Card?

You can download this voter card in PDF version and keep it on your mobile or computer. You can also upload the digital voter ID card in cloud storage. This will ensure more security of your personal data and voter identification number. 

Recently, the government of India has allowed voters to use digital voter ID cards on the same day of polling. This will be beneficial if their original voter card is lost. Voters need not worry about the security of a digital voter ID card because the digital voter card contains a secured QR code with images and demographics which cannot be duplicated.

You can apply and download your voter ID card online only if you have registered on the NVSP portal. Here are the steps for registration on the NVSP portal to apply for digital voter ID card:

Step 1: Go to the National Voters Services Portal (NVSP) website

Step 2: Click on the ‘Sign-Up’ button.

Step 3: Enter the mobile number, email address and captcha code and click ‘Continue’.

Step 4: Enter your ‘First Name’, ‘Last Name’, ‘Password’, ‘Confirm Password’, and click the ‘Request OTP’ button.

Step 5: Enter the OTP sent to your mobile number and email ID and click on ‘Verify’.

Step 6: You will be registered on the NVSP portal, and you can log in using your mobile number and password. 

How to Apply for Digital Voter ID Card Online?

A voter ID card is an identification proof of an Indian citizen aged 18 years and above. The Election Commission of India provides a voter ID card once you are eligible to cast a vote in the elections. Since the launch of digital voter ID, applicants can apply for it by following the below steps:

Step 1: Go to the National Voters Services Portal (NVSP) website and click on ‘Login’.

Step 2: Enter all valid credentials to log in.

Step 3: After logging in, click the ‘Fill Form 6’ button under the ‘New registration for general electors’ tab.

Step 4: Form 6 will appear on the screen. This is an application form for new voters. Fill out the entire application form with the correct details.

Step 5: Click on ‘Preview’ and submit once done.

How to Check Digital Voter ID Card Status?

Here is a detailed step-by-step guide on how to check digital voter ID card status:

Step 1: Go to the National Voters Services Portal (NVSP) website

Step 2: Enter all valid credentials to log in.

Step 3: Click the ‘Track Application Status’ option 

Step 4: Enter the ‘Reference Number’, select state, and click ‘Submit’.

The status will be displayed on the screen. You can also call from your BSNL mobile number to the provided helpline number - 1950 to track your status. 

How to Download a Digital Voter ID?

The government enables electors to download digital voter ID cards from the National Voters Services Portal (NVSP). Here are the steps on how to download a digital voter card:

Step 1: Go to the National Voters Services Portal (NVSP) website

Step 2: Enter all valid credentials to log in or register on the site to log in.

Step 3: Click on the ‘E-EPIC Download’ tab available on the homepage.

Step 4: Select the ‘EPIC No.’ or ‘Form Reference no.’.

Step 5: Enter the EPIC number or the form reference number you received at the time of filling out the form.

Step 6: Select the state and click on the ‘Search’ button.

Step 7: The Voter ID details will be displayed on the screen. Click on the ‘Send OTP’ button. However, please note that your mobile number must be updated on the portal to receive the OTP. You can update your mobile number by filling ‘Form 8’ on the NVSP website.

Step 8: Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number and click on the ‘Verify’ button.

Below are some of the features of a digital voter ID card that you must know before downloading:

  • Registered individuals can download a PDF version of the voter card on their mobile phone by scanning a unique QR code.
  • You can keep the digital voter ID card in Digilocker. This thereby eliminates the need to carry several documents with you.
  • If you are not comfortable with the electronic version of the voter ID card, you can opt for hard copies.
  • The Election Commission of India has introduced the download option of e-EPIC to avoid delays in getting the voter ID.
  • The launch of digital voter ID cards saves you the time and effort of visiting the government office and opting for the voter ID card application.
  • If you are a registered individual and will cast a vote for the first time, you will be eligible for this e-EPIC on your mobile. This, however, ensures that all your stored information will be safe and secured.
  • Before accessing the digital voter ID card, linking your mobile number to the ECI is a must. Once done, you can avail this e-EPIC from February 2021.
  • You need not apply for a new card if you have shifted to a different state or city. You can change the address online and get the digital version of the ID card. 

You can apply for a digital voter ID card online from the convenience of your home if you have not applied yet. The application process is straightforward and can be followed with ease. 

Once registered on the NVSP website, log in and download the digital voter ID card. This will also protect you from the risks of fraud or any fake portals. You should not consider your digital voter ID card as only an official document; rather, it is a ticket necessary for democratic elections.
