What is the Jai Bangla Pension Scheme?

The Jai Bangla Pension Scheme was introduced by the Government of West Bengal on 1 April 2020 to streamline multiple social security pension programmes under a single umbrella platform.

  • Unified Pension Platform: Instead of administering separate pension schemes through different departments, the state consolidated old-age pensions, widow pensions, disability pensions, SC/ST pensions, and several occupation-specific pension schemes into one integrated system.
  • Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): The scheme uses Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to credit pension amounts directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts.
  • Implementation Framework: The programme is administered through the Department of Women & Child Development and Social Welfare and operates through district administrations, BDO offices, SDO offices, KMC offices, and Duare Sarkar camps.

How is it Different from IGNOAPS?

Many beneficiaries confuse the WCD Old Age Pension Scheme with the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS). While both provide old-age pension benefits, their funding structure differs.

SchemeFunding PatternMonthly Pension
WCD Old Age Pension SchemeState Government of West Bengal₹1,000
IGNOAPS (60–79 years)Central Government + State Top-up₹1,000

  • Payments are generally released on or around the first day of every month through integration with the West Bengal Integrated Financial Management System (WBIFMS).
  • The pension amount is credited directly into the beneficiary's bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Many older websites still mention pension amounts of ₹600 under schemes such as Taposili Bandhu. These figures relate to older versions of the schemes before harmonisation under Jai Bangla. The current pension amount under most sub-schemes is ₹1,000 per month.

Lakshmir Bhandar to Jai Bangla Pension Transition

Under this arrangement:

  • No fresh application is required.
  • The transition is handled through government databases and beneficiary verification systems.

Depending on eligibility, beneficiaries may be shifted to:

  • Old Age Pension Scheme
