Introduction

A consumer credit file is a compilation of a consumer's credit-related information, including the borrowing and repayment activities. The information present in the credit file acts as a major factor to determine your credit score. When a consumer applies for credit, then his or her consumer credit file will be checked by the financial institutions to decide on accepting or declining the application.

What is Consumer Credit File?

A typical consumer credit file contains the consumers' identity information, such as ID card number, full legal name, phone number, email ID, address, and other relevant information. It may also include information on your current and former employers.

Further, the file includes information about the types of debt you have taken so far, such as credit cards, personal loans, and mortgages. It also includes information about who has made credit inquiries about and when the inquiry was made.

Details, such as bankruptcy declaration, legal cases, judgements, and past due accounts that were sent to collections will be present in the file if any.
