Excise Collections May Drop Before GST Goes Live

The wait for the final GST rates may result in lower excise collections. Many dealers who are still unsure about the rates under GST and the transition provisions for the same, may refrain from buying new products from manufacturers.

Businesses are preferring to wait and watch rather than buy huge inventories and suffer a possible loss after GST implementation in July. However, this state of caution may hurt excise collection in the April-June quarter said a representative from a leading professional services firm.
