What is New Aadhaar App?

On 8th April 2025, the Union Minister announced the launch of the beta version of the new Aadhaar app. This app is built in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). It contains various new features with enhanced security. Users can digitally verify and share their Aadhaar details while ensuring their privacy.  Aadhaar verification will become as simple as making a UPI payment. 

This will eliminate the need for users to carry their physical Aadhaar card or its photocopies. The digital innovation in the Aadhaar app will make Aadhaar verification easier, faster, and more secure.

• The new Aadhaar app comes with a Face ID authentication feature.

What is Aadhaar Face ID and How it Works?

One of the highlights of the new Aadhaar app is Face ID authentication, which provides additional security and verification with ease. The Aadhaar Face ID feature enables users to authenticate their identity through facial recognition technology that is associated with the Aadhaar photograph stored in their Aadhaar profile. This is how the Face ID feature functions:

• Once the app is downloaded, users can access it by capturing a live photo with their phone’s camera. 
• The captured image is matched in real-time with the one stored in the UIDAI database.
• The Aadhaar-based authentication and verification is complete if the face matches the UIDAI database.

QR Code Authentication in Aadhaar App

The Aadhaar app has a QR code-based authentication feature. Users can scan the QR code using the app, and their faces are verified instantly. The Aadhaar ID is securely shared directly from an individual’s phone through the QR code authentication feature. 

Soon, Aadhaar verification QR codes will be available at points of authentication, just like UPI payment QR codes, which are available at almost all payment points in India. 

How to Download the New Aadhaar App? 

Currently, the new Aadhaar app is in the beta testing phase, and it has yet to be widely implemented nationwide. The new Aadhaar app will soon be available for both Android and iOS devices to download from the Play Store.
