Copyright is defined as the legal rights of the proprietor for intellectual property. No other person can replicate the same without seeking permission from the owner.
Understanding Copyright
Copyright permits the creators and authorised individuals to replicate or reproduce the original work. Creators of original material reserve the exclusive right to further develop their work and use it for a certain amount of time, say 20 years. After this periodo of time, the copyrighted work becomes available in the public domain.
You cannot copyright every work. Copyright policies do not cover theories, discoveries, and concepts.
Copyright Regulations in India
The Copyright Act, 1957 consists of all regulations pertaining to copyrights in India; it came into effect in January 1958. Since its introduction, the act has been amended five times and the latest amendment was made in 2012.
With the widespread use of internet, new requirements for copyrights were identified. Meanwhile, some important amendments were made to the Copyright Act in the year 2012 in regards to the digital environment.
