    What is Jai Jawan Jai Kisan?

    "Jai Jawan Jai Kisan" (Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer) is a patriotic slogan given by Lal Bahadur Shastri, India’s second Prime Minister, in 1965. It was aimed at motivating both:

    • Jawans (Soldiers) – Defending the nation during the Indo-Pak War of 1965.
    • Kisans (Farmers) – Boosting food production during a period of food scarcity.

    This slogan became a symbol of national pride and self-reliance.

    1998 – "Jai Vigyan" (Hail Science)
    Added by Atal Bihari Vajpayee to emphasise the role of science & technology in India's progress.

    2019 – "Jai Anusandhan" (Hail Research)
    Introduced by PM Narendra Modi to highlight the importance of innovation & research.

    2009 – "Jai Vidwaan" (Hail the Learned)
    Proposed by Dr. Kailash Chandra Mishra to stress the value of education & knowledge in development.
