Introduction
Cramming is a memorisation technique or an emergency test-preparation strategy that involves an attempt to absorb extensive amounts of information within a short period of time, prior to an exam.
What is Cramming?
Cramming is a short-term memorisation technique. Although it is not considered an effective preparation strategy by educators, cramming has benefitted some students and has been popular among them.
Correlation Between Cramming and Time
The University of Michigan has found that there is little to no correlation between a student's grade and the amount of time he spent studying. This may be one of the reasons why cramming is so widely used.
For long-term retention of information, students are recommended to practice active learning and critical thinking through discussions, individual thinking, and studying in groups.
