Previously, the process of name change in Aadhaar card was both online and offline. However, now, only the address change in Aadhaar card is online and the rest all updates in Aadhaar card is offline. This means that you can change your name in the Aadhaar card only by visiting an official Aadhaar enrolment centre.
Currently, you cannot update the name online. Here is the step-by-step process to change your name on Aadhaar card:
Step 1: Download the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Form from the official website of UIDAI.
Step 2: Visit your nearby Aadhaar enrolment centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
Step 3: Fill in the necessary details and provide this form to the executive.
Step 4: Submit the original Proof of Identity document to the executives. They will take a xerox of it and give it back to you.
Step 5: Now submit a fee of Rs. 50 for updating your name on your Aadhaar.
You will receive an acknowledgement slip containing an updated URN (Update Request Number). By using this URN, you can check your UIDAI Aadhaar update status.
You cannot change your name without valid identity proof. Keep at least one original proof of identity document with you while visiting the Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar enrolment centre.
However, in exceptional cases, the UIDAI may consider alternative verification modes if the proof of identity document is not available.
