How To Change Address In Aadhaar Card Online & Offline?

Aadhaar card address change can be completed online through the new Aadhaar app or the myAadhaar portal. You may also update the address offline by visiting an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

How to Change Address in Aadhaar Card Online?

Given below is the step-by-step process for updating your address on Aadhaar card online.

Using myAadhaar portal

Step 1: Login to myAadhaar portal by entering your Aadhaar number, captcha code and OTP. 

Step 2: After logging in, select the option ‘Address Update’ tab.

Step 3: On the next page, click on ‘Update Aadhaar using your documents’ tab.

Step 4: Select ‘Address’ and click ‘Proceed to Update Aadhaar’.

Step 5: In the online form, the current address will be displayed. Scroll down and enter your new address and select the state, district, village/ town/ city and post office. 

Step 6: Select the proof of address document from the ‘Valid Supporting Document Type’ dropdown list and upload the document.

Step 6: After entering the above details, click ‘Next’. Preview the details and proceed to payment. Pay the non-refundable fees of ₹75.

A Service Request Number (SRN) will be generated. Save it for tracking status later. 

Using new Aadhaar app

Step 1: Open the new Aadhaar app on your smartphone. 

Step 2: Log in using Aadhaar credentials and complete authentication. 

Step 3: Select the address update option. 

Step 4: Enter the new address exactly as per POA. 

Step 5: Upload a valid Proof of Address document. 

Step 6: Pay the ₹75 update fee and submit the request. Note the Service Request Number (SRN) for tracking.

How to Change Address in Aadhaar Card Offline?

If you prefer an offline update or cannot upload POA, visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorised Aadhaar update centre.

Step 1: Visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra/authorised centre.

Step 2: Fill out the Aadhaar Update Form.

Step 3: Submit POA document and biometric authentication.

Step 4: Pay the fee of ₹75.

Step 5: Receive an acknowledgement slip with URN for tracking.

How to Change Address in Aadhaar Card via Post or Mail?

You can change the address on your Aadhaar card by sending a request through regular mail. This method is convenient for those without internet access or a nearby Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

Step 1: Download the Aadhaar Update Form.

Step 2: Fill out the required details on the Aadhaar Update Form.

Step 3: Attach the photocopy of the POA document.

Step 4: Mail the completed form and a photocopy of the POA document to the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.

How to Update Aadhaar Address Using Head of Family (HoF)?

Family members without address proof or individuals living in shared households can update their address using the Head of Family (HoF) based method. 

Step 1: Log in to the myAadhaar portal using your Aadhaar number and OTP

Step 2: Select ‘Address Update' tab.

Step 3: On the next page, click on ‘Family member based Address Update’ tab.

Step 4: Enter HoF’s Aadhaar number and mobile number. Select the relationship with HoF and click ‘Next’. 

Step 5: Upload the Proof of Relationship (POR) document, such as Ration card, Marriage certificate, Birth certificate or Passport.

Step 6: Make the payment. The HoF will receive an OTP for consent. Once approved, your address change request will be processed.

What Are the Documents Required for Aadhaar Card Address Change?

The Proof of Address (POA) documents that can be submitted for Aadhaar card address update are:

  • Passport 
  • Bank statement, passbook or post office account statement
  • Ration card
  • Disability ID card
  • Voter ID card
  • MGNREGA/ NREGS job card
  • Electricity bill (not older than three months), including prepaid receipts 
  • Water bill (not older than three months) 
  • Gas connection (not older than three months) 
  • Telephone landline bill/ phone (postpaid mobile) bill/ broadband bill (not older than three months)
  • Property tax receipt (not older than one year)
  • Pensioner photo identity card
  • Kisan photo passbook
  • Marriage certificate with or without photograph
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST)/ Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Other Backward Caste (OBC) certificate
  • Third gender/ transgender identity card/ certificate
  • Certificate issued on UIDAI standard certificate format by MP/ MLA/ MLC/ municipal councillor/ Tehsildar/ gazetted officer group ‘B’/ village panchayat head/ village revenue officer
  • Valid sale agreement/ gift deed registered with the registrar's office
  • Registered or unregistered rent/ lease agreement/ leave and licence agreement
  • Allotment letter of accommodation issued by the Central Government/ State Government/ PSU/ regulatory body/ statutory body
  • Life or medical insurance policy (valid up to 1 year from the policy issue date)
  • Prisoner Induction Document (PID)
  • Valid registration certificate or residential permit issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) /Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) to the foreign national
  • Valid Long Term Visa (LTV) for long-term visa holders

What Are the Documents Not Accepted for Aadhaar Card Address Change?

The below documents will not be accepted for Aadhaar address update:

  • Driving license 
  • CGHS/ ECHS/ ESIC/ Mediclaim card issued by the Central Government, State Government/ PSU
  • Divorce decree issued by a family court
  • University or Board of Education recognised marksheet
  • Birth certificate
  • Valid foreign passport for OCI cardholders and other foreign nationals
  • Address Validation Letter addressed to the verifier

How Can I Change Aadhaar Address Without Proof?

You cannot change your Aadhaar card address without proof of address. You must have a proper POA document containing your new address to change address on your Aadhaar card. 

UIDAI requires a POA document matching your new address, either in your name or your family head's name, with the proof of relationship. No alternative method (self‑declaration, employer letter, rental note, etc.) can replace POA.

How Much Time Does It Take for Aadhaar Card Address Change Online?

As per UIDAI, the Aadhaar card address change time is stated at a maximum of 30 days from the submission of the request. However, with system improvement, the request is generally approved/rejected within a few days. 

How to Check Aadhaar Card Address Update Status?

Once you have submitted your Aadhaar update application, you will receive a SRN. You can track the status of your request by following the below steps:

Step 1:  Open the ‘Check Aadhaar Update Status’ page on the UIDAI portal.

Step 2: Select ‘SRN’. Enter the SRN and the captcha code and click ‘Submit’.

It is used for payment-related or broader service tracking, such as PVC card orders or specific online self-service features. An SRN often starts with ‘S’ followed by a 13-digit number. How to Download the Aadhaar Card After Address Change?

Once the address update is approved, the updated Aadhaar can be downloaded in digital format from the UIDAI portal. You can download Aadhaar card from the UIDAI portal using your Aadhaar number, VID, SID or EID.

A registered mobile number linked with Aadhaar is mandatory for OTP authentication. Hence, it is essential to have your current mobile number updated with your Aadhaar.
