The Telangana government launched the Mahalakshmi scheme to empower women of below-poverty level categories. Any woman in Telangana irrespective of her caste can apply for this scheme. What is Mahalakshmi Scheme in Telangana?

Telangana Government has launched the Mahalakshmi Scheme for families that come under BPL, APL, or other marginal categories. Under this scheme, eligible families receive Rs.2,500 per month to improve their standard of living, gas cylinders of Rs.500 and free bus travel across Telangana.

• Women applicants from Telangana can receive a monthly assistance of Rs.2,500.
• The applicants can get LPG gas cylinders at Rs.500.
• Eligible woman applicants will receive the subsidy and financial assistance amount directly in their bank account.
• All Telangana women can travel in TSRTC buses all over the state free of cost.

Mahalakshmi Scheme Free Bus

There are no eligibility criteria to avail of the free bus travel under the Mahalakshmi scheme in Telangana. Every woman and girl in Telangana can take advantage of free TSRTC bus travel across Telangana. Below are the rules for free bus travel under the Mahalakshmi Scheme in Telangana:

• All girls, women, and transgender persons of all age groups residing in Telangana can travel on buses for free.
• They can travel anywhere for free in buses within the borders of Telangana in Palle Velugu and Express buses.
• Women will need to show their Aadhaar cards to the bus conductors to verify and issue zero-rupee tickets for free travel.

Mahalakshmi Scheme Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for the Mahalakshmi scheme, apart from free bus travel in TSRTC, are as follows:

• The applicant must be a permanent resident of Telangana.
• The applicant’s annual family income should be below Rs.2 lakh.
• Women of the BPL, APL, and Antyodaya categories can apply for this scheme.
• The woman must be the head of the family or household if applying to receive Rs.2,500 per month under this scheme.
• The woman must have a valid LPG connection in their household if applying to receive a gas cylinder Rs.500 under this scheme.
• Only one woman from each family is eligible for these benefits. 
• Government employees and taxpayers are not eligible for this scheme. 
• If the husband of a woman files GST returns or Income tax returns, she cannot apply for this scheme.

Applying for Mahalakshmi scheme

You can apply for the Mahalakshmi scheme by following the below steps:

Step 1: Visit Gram Panchayat, Gram Sabha or Municipal Corporation Office.

Step 2: Collect the application form for the Mahalakshmi scheme and fill it out with the necessary information. You can also download the form and fill it out.

Step 3: Attach the required documents along with the filled-out application form.

Step 4: Cross-check the application form and attached documents and submit them to the Gram Panchayat, Gram Sabha, or Municipal Corporation Office. 

The last date to apply for the Mahalakshmi scheme was 06.01.2024. However, there is no need to apply for free bus travel under the Mahalakshmi scheme.

• Visit the Praja Palana website.
• Enter your application number and click ‘View Status’.
• Your Mahalakshmi Scheme application status will be displayed on the screen.
