What is Gruha Jyothi Scheme Telangana?

The Telangana government introduced the Gruha Jyothi Scheme to help households reduce electricity expenses. Under this scheme, eligible families receive free electricity for domestic use up to 200 units per month.

Important: The 200-unit limit is a strict cutoff. Households using up to 200 units in a month receive a zero electricity bill. If consumption exceeds 200 units, even by 1 unit, the household must pay the full electricity bill for that month.

Visit the relevant office to collect the application form for the Gruha Jyothi scheme, or simply download it from the official portal. The following details are to be entered on the Gruha Jyothi application form:

• Enter personal and contact details on the first page of the application.
• On the third page of this application form, fill out the Gruha Jyothi scheme details, which are:
  • Enter the applicant's home’s previous month’s electricity consumption by ticking the relevant units. 
  • Enter the applicant's electric metre connection number.  
• On the fourth page, enter the applicant's name, signature, and other details.

After filling out the application form and attaching the required documents, submit it to the Municipal corporation.

How To Apply for Gruha Jyothi Scheme?

The steps below are to be followed to apply for the Gruha Jyothi Scheme:

Step 1: Download the Praja Palana application form from the official Telangana portal or collect it from the local Gram Panchayat or Ward Office.

Step 2: Fill in the required personal details and enter the electricity meter service number in the Gruha Jyothi Scheme section.

Step 3: Attach copies of the Aadhaar Card, White Ration Card, and the latest electricity bill. Tenants may also need to provide a rental agreement.

Step 4: Submit the completed application and documents at a Praja Palana centre, MPDO office, or Municipal Corporation office.

Step 5: Collect and keep the acknowledgment receipt for future status tracking.
