What is Gruha Jyothi Scheme Telangana?

Telangana government has launched a free electricity scheme known as Gruha Jyothi for the residents of this state. Under this scheme, every qualifying family will get free electricity for up to 200 units of power consumption. Any unit above this limit is chargeable. However, if any family’s monthly electricity consumption is less than 200 units, they can receive free electricity under this scheme.

Here are the benefits of the Gruha Jyothi Scheme:

• This scheme is launched to benefit households with lower incomes by providing free electricity.  
• You can get free electricity for up to 200 units for domestic use under the Gruha Jyothi scheme.
• Households with a white ration card and low electricity consumption of below 200 units can get free electricity without paying any bills. However, if your household consumes more than 200 units, you need to pay normal electricity bill rate for the additional units.
• Apart from house owners, individuals living in rented apartments can also apply for this scheme upon fulfilling the eligibility requirements. Tenants need to provide the documents to prove that the metre is in their landlord’s name.
• Citizens of small villages and towns can benefit from this scheme as electricity availability is a major issue in these areas.

Gruha Jyothi Scheme Telangana Eligibility

To apply for Telangana Gruha Jyothi Scheme, an applicant should meet the following criteria:

• Only the residents of Telangana can apply for this scheme.
• Families that consume more than 200 units of power are not eligible for this scheme.
• This scheme will cover a maximum of 200 units of power free of cost for each family.
• Applicants should not have any outstanding or pending electricity bills while applying for the Gruha Jyothi scheme.
• This scheme is available for domestic purposes only. So, you cannot apply for this scheme to cover the electricity cost of your commercial property.
• Applicants of this scheme must have their white ration card and an Aadhaar card linked to the customer ID of the electricity bill.
• If the applicant owns multiple houses, he/she can avail of this scheme for any one of them. 

How To Apply for Gruha Jyothi Scheme?

You can apply for the Gruha Jyothi scheme by following the steps below:

Step 1: You need to download the Gruha Jyothi scheme application from the Praja Palana official portal.

Step 2: Fill out the Gruha Jyothi details and attach the required documents. 

Step 3: Submit the application for the Gruha Jyothi scheme along with the required documents to the Municipal Corporation Office.

You can visit the concerned office and collect the application form for the Gruha Jyothi scheme or simply download it from the official portal. You need to fill out the following details on the Gruha Jyothi application form:

• Enter your personal and contact details on the first page of the application.
• On the third page of this application form, fill out the Gruha Jyothi scheme details, which are:
  • Enter your home’s previous month’s electricity consumption by ticking the relevant units. 
  • Enter your electric metre connection number.  
• On the fourth page, enter your name, signature, and other details.

After filling out the application form and attaching the required documents, submit it to the Municipal corporation.

Documents Required for Gruha Jyothi Scheme Telangana

Eligible candidates need to submit the following documents while applying for the Gruha Jyothi scheme:

• Aadhaar card
• Residential proof
• White ration card
• Electricity bill customer ID
• Current electricity bill
• Rental and tenant documents (if applicable)

Citizens of Telangana who have a white ration card can apply for the Gruha Jyothi scheme to save on their electricity bills. Through this scheme, eligible households will get free electricity up to 200 units or a zero electricity bill when their electricity consumption is below 200 units in a month for domestic use.
