Voting to determine who represents your community and country is a basic right granted to all registered citizens of India. To make it easier for NRIs to exercise this right, the Electoral Commission of India launched the National Voter Service Portal (NVSP). The National Voter Service Portal is a website that helps users generate their voter ID and view any information on the status of their application.

What are the services provided on the NVSP?

The NVSP offers a broad range of services designed to help NRIs participate in the country’s election process. Some of these services include:

  • Search names in the electoral list
  • Correction of entries in the electoral roll
  • Deletion/objection in electoral roll
  • Apply online for new registration
  • Application for transposition of entry in the electoral roll
  • Apply online for enrolment, modification, deletion and change of address in the electoral roll
  • Apply online for registration of overseas voter
  • Print vote information slip
  • Track status of applications
  • View links to state/UT CEO offices websites
  • View details of polling booth, booth level officer,  Assembly Constituency and Parliamentary constituency, Electoral Registration Officer and other elected officers.
  • View awareness-centric information on polling processes, Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), etc.

How do you register yourself on the NVSP?

To register yourself on the NVSP, you need to follow these steps:

  • Visit the official website – https://www.nvsp.in/ 
  • Click the registration button 
  • A pop up will open. Request an OTP on your mobile number
  • Once the number is verified, you must choose between two options – one with an EPIC number and one without
  • If you select the option with the EPIC number, you must enter the same and register yourself. Then you will need to create a password
  • If you select the option without the EPIC number, you must enter your details in the data fields on the page. Then, you can create a password for your account

How do you log into the NVSP?

To log into the NVSP,  you must:

  • Visit the official website – https://www.nvsp.in/ 
  • Click the login button on the home page
  • Enter your mobile number or e-mail ID  in the data field
  • Enter your password in the data field under it
  • Enter the CAPTCHA verification code you see on the screen
  • Click the login button

How do you track your status on the NVSP?

For tracking the application status, you can:

  • Visit the official website – https://www.nvsp.in/ 
  • Follow the steps listed in the previous section to Log into your account
  • Click the track application status button
  • Enter your reference ID in the data field. You can also track your application by entering your name
  • Click the track status button
  • The desired information will be displayed on your screen

How to download your Voter ID card?

To download your voter ID card, you must:

  • Visit the official website
  • Login to your account (if you do not have an account, you should register)
  • Click the download EPIC button
  • Enter your registered mobile number and request an OTP
  • Enter the OTP
  • Click the download EPIC button
  • Your digital Voter ID card will automatically download after this

Checking your name in the voter list

To check whether your name is there in the voter list, you must:

  • Visit the official website
  • Click the search in electoral roll  button
  • Select either the search by EPIC number or search by detail option
  • Enter the required details in the data fields
  • Enter the verification code
  • Click the search button
  • The information pertaining to your query will be displayed on the screen
