Annual Information Statement (AIS) provides a comprehensive view of tax-related information available on Form 26AS. The Income Tax Department launched a mobile app on March 22, 2023, to help taxpayers access their information statements easily.
Taxpayers can get access to this information on the AIS for Taxpayer App and provide online feedback accordingly. AIS app can be downloaded from Google Play Store and iOS App Store for free.
AIS consists of information on TDS, tax payments, interest, dividends, income tax refunds, share transactions, and other information (GST Data, Foreign Remittances, etc). As a taxpayer, you need to examine this information and provide feedback regarding the modification of their value, if needed. From AY 2023-24 onwards details of self-assessment tax, advance tax, refund received, etc. would be available in AIS instead of Form 26AS.
Here comes the importance of the AIS app. You can add the required feedback through this app. Moreover, you can view both the modified and reported values on AIS whenever needed.
After you download the AIS App from Google Play Store or App Store, you need to enter your PAN number and date of birth (DOB). Next, you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number or email. You need to authenticate your contact information with that of the e-filing portal by entering the OTP accurately. Once authenticated, you can create a 4-digit MPIN to use this mobile app.
You need to register on the AIS App and set an MPIN to secure your income tax-related information. Here are the steps to follow for the registration and MPIN generation procedure:
Step 1: Download the AIS for Taxpayers app from Google Play Store or iOS App Store.
Step 2: Click 'Next' to scroll through the screens or click 'Skip' as required.
Step 3: You will find a 'Get Started' option after skipping all the onboarding screens. Click on it.
Step 4: Add your date of birth and PAN number on the required boxes. Click on the check box beside terms and conditions and click 'Proceed' to continue.
Step 5: On the next page, you need to enter your primary email address and mobile number as provided in the income tax e-filing portal.
Step 6: Click on the pop-up confirmation box to view the next page.
Step 7: Enter the OTPs sent to your mail id and mobile number correctly and click 'Verify'.
Note: You will get five attempts to enter the accurate OTPs received on your registered number and mail id. If you fail to enter them correctly after the fifth attempt, your account will be locked for 24 hours.
Step 8: After entering the correct OTP, the MPIN setup page will open on the screen.
Step 9: Generate your MPIN and click on 'Next'. You need to re-enter the MPIN for confirmation and click 'Confirm' to continue.
Step 10: Now that you have successfully registered on AIS App, you can use your MPIN to log in and view Annual Information Statement.
You can follow these steps to log in to the AIS App and view your Annual Information Statement:

On the other hand, AIS will display other taxes like Self-assessment tax, advance tax, refund, etc. So, you can use AIS App to view all tax-related details for FY 2023-2024 and onwards.
