Annual Information Statement (AIS) provides a comprehensive view of tax-related information available on Form 26AS. The Income Tax Department launched a mobile app on March 22, 2023, to help taxpayers access their information statements easily.

Taxpayers can get access to this information on the AIS for Taxpayer App and provide online feedback accordingly. AIS app can be downloaded from Google Play Store and iOS App Store for free

Importance of AIS App

AIS consists of information on TDS, tax payments, interest, dividends, income tax refunds, share transactions, and other information (GST Data, Foreign Remittances, etc). As a taxpayer, you need to examine this information and provide feedback regarding the modification of their value, if needed. From AY 2023-24 onwards details of self-assessment tax, advance tax, refund received, etc. would be available in AIS instead of Form 26AS.

Here comes the importance of the AIS app. You can add the required feedback through this app. Moreover, you can view both the modified and reported values on AIS whenever needed.

How to Use the AIS (Annual Information Statement) App?

After you download the AIS App from Google Play Store or App Store, you need to enter your PAN number and date of birth (DOB). Next, you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number or email. You need to authenticate your contact information with that of the e-filing portal by entering the OTP accurately. Once authenticated, you can create a 4-digit MPIN to use this mobile app.

Steps to Register on the AIS for Taxpayers App

You need to register on the AIS App and set an MPIN to secure your income tax-related information. Here are the steps to follow for the registration and MPIN generation procedure:

Step 1: Download the AIS for Taxpayers app from Google Play Store or iOS App Store.

Step 2: Click 'Next' to scroll through the screens or click 'Skip' as required.

Step 3: You will find a 'Get Started' option after skipping all the onboarding screens. Click on it.

Step 4: Add your date of birth and PAN number on the required boxes. Click on the check box beside terms and conditions and click 'Proceed' to continue.

Step 6: Click on the pop-up confirmation box to view the next page.

Step 7: Enter the OTPs sent to your mail id and mobile number correctly and click 'Verify'.

Note: You will get five attempts to enter the accurate OTPs received on your registered number and mail id. If you fail to enter them correctly after the fifth attempt, your account will be locked for 24 hours.

Step 8: After entering the correct OTP, the MPIN setup page will open on the screen.

Step 9: Generate your MPIN and click on 'Next'. You need to re-enter the MPIN for confirmation and click 'Confirm' to continue.

Step 10: Now that you have successfully registered on AIS App, you can use your MPIN to log in and view Annual Information Statement.

How to Log in and View AIS on AIS App?

You can follow these steps to log in to the AIS App and view your Annual Information Statement:

Step 1: Log in to AIS App by entering the MPIN you generated while registering. (Enter your MPIN correctly within five attempts to avoid account blockage for 24 hours.)

Step 2: To view AIS (Annual Information Statement) and TIS (Taxpayer Information Summary), click on the Annual Information Statement (AIS) tile.

Step 4: Select the Financial Year for which you intend to view the AIS.

Step 5: Click on the 'Annual Information Statement' tab for a detailed overview.

How to View AIS on the Web Portal?

Here are the steps you can follow to view AIS on the web portal:

Step 1: Visit the Income Tax e-filing portal.

Step 2: Log in to the e-filing portal and select 'Annual Information Statement (AIS)' from the dropdown list under the 'Services' tab.

Step 3: Once redirected, click on the 'AIS' tab.

Step 4: Select the required Financial Year on AIS to view your Annual Information Statement.

Final Word

Viewing the Annual Information Statement (AIS) lets you know all your tax-related data for a specific financial year. Until FY 2022-2023, Form 26AS provided all sorts of information related to your tax liability. However, as per the official Income tax website, Form 26AS will now only display TDS or TCS data. On the other hand, AIS will display other taxes like Self-assessment tax, advance tax, refund, etc. So, you can use AIS App to view all tax-related details for FY 2023-2024 and onwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it necessary to give feedback on AIS income tax?

If there's no discrepancy with the actual figures, you're not obligated to provide feedback. Feel free to abstain from doing so. However, it's essential to ensure alignment with the AIS unless you can substantiate that the reported incomes or transactions are not applicable based on accounting policies or other valid reasons.

What is the difference between AIS and Form 26AS?

AIS is the extension of Form 26AS. Form 26AS displays details of property purchases, high-value investments, and TDS/TCS transactions carried out during the financial year. AIS additionally includes savings account interest, dividend, rent received, purchase and sale transactions of securities/immovable properties, foreign remittances, interest on deposits, GST turnover etc.

AIS also provides the taxpayer the option to give feedback on the transactions reported. Further, the aggregation of transactions on information source level is also reported in TIS.

For more information, navigate to AIS under e-File/AIS menu after login.

What will happen once I submit the feedback?

Upon successful submission of feedback on AIS information, the feedback will be displayed with the information and the modified value of the information will also be visible with the reported value. The activity history tab will also be updated, and you will be able to download Acknowledgement Receipt. Email and SMS confirmations for submission of feedback will also be sent.

Is there any limit on the number of times I can modify a given feedback?

Currently, there is no limit on the number of times you can modify previously given feedbacks.
