The procedure for checking one’s EPF balance has now been made very easy and hassle free. You can now check the balance in your EPF account at any time and from anywhere without the need of filling any forms and visiting the EPF office. An EPF balance check can be done now in less than 5 minutes either by way of an SMS, by giving a missed call, using the EPFO app or through the EPFO portal.
Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is an integral source of an employee’s savings. Timely receipt of requisite information regarding one’s EPF balance helps them plan for their major expenses which they can meet either by withdrawing from EPF or by availing a loan against the EPF balance. Even otherwise, quick access to the EPF account balance will keep the employees updated of the increment in their balance in the PF account from time to time.
1. Using EPFO Portal
Prerequisite – In order to check EPF balance, make sure that your UAN has been activated by the employer. UAN is Universal Account Number which is unique for all the employees enrolled under the EPF scheme. All employees need to have only one UAN throughout their working life irrespective of the number of companies they change. The UAN number is provided by EPFO (EPF organization)
Once the UAN number is activated, simply follow the below steps:
Step 1: Go to the EPFO portal. Click on the tab ‘Our Services’ and choose “for employees” option from the dropdown list.
Step 2: Now click on the option ‘Member passbook’ under the option “Services”
Step 3: The following Login page will appear. Here you need to enter your UAN number and password after it has been activated.
After logging in, you can access your EPF account.
2. By Sending an SMS
Prerequisite – To know the EPF balance through SMS, a precondition is that your UAN number is integrated with your KYC details such as bank account, Aadhaar or PAN. If you are unable to do this, you can take the help of your employer to do this.
Once the UAN number is integrated with your KYC details, simply follow the below steps:
Step 1: Send an SMS to mobile number 7738299899.
Step 2: You need to send the message as EPFOHO UAN ENG. ENG is the first three characters of the preferred language So, if you want to receive the message in Marathi, then type in EPFOHO UAN MAR. This facility is available in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Bengali.
3. By giving a missed call
Prerequisite – You can find out your EPF balance by giving Missed Call provided again, your UAN is integrated with your KYC details such as bank account, Aadhaar or PAN. If you are unable to do this, you can take the help of your employer to do this.
Once the UAN is integrated with your KYC details, simply follow the below steps:
Step 1: Give a missed call to 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number.
Step 2: After giving missed call, you will receive an SMS providing your PF details.
4. By using the EPFO app
PreRequisite – In order to check EPF balance, make sure that your UAN number has been activated by the employer.
EPF balance check can also be done by downloading the “m-sewa app of EPFO” from Google Play Store.
Step 1: Once the app is downloaded, you need to click on ‘Member’ and then on ‘Balance/passbook’.
Step 2: Afterwards, enter your UAN and registered mobile number. The system will verify the mobile number against your UAN and will throw an error if it does not match. And if gets matched, you can view your updated EPF balance details.
Recently the Electronics and IT Ministry launched the app called “Umang” that merges different government services like Aadhaar, gas booking, crop insurance, NPS and EPF. You can use this app also to check your EPF details. Once you install the app from Google Play Store, you can find the EPFO option from the app’s home page under the head “Employee Centric Services” option.
