The ‘Link Aadhaar’ service is available on the new e-filing portal’s home page. This service is available for both registered and unregistered users.
The government has extended the deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar up to June 2023. Failing to link PAN with Aadhaar before the deadline will lead to an invalid PAN card.

A new e-filing portal was launched on 7th June 2021 by the income tax department. The URL address of the new e-filing portal is www.incometax.gov.in.
It is mandatory to link one’s PAN with Aadhaar card as it helps the government to track all the financial transactions undertaken by the taxpayers in India. It also helps the government to keep a check on tax evasion. PAN and Aadhaar are both identity proofs of an individual. If not linked before the due date, it will be impossible to carry out financial transactions where PAN card details are mandatory. Linking PAN and Aadhaar prevents an individual from holding multiple PANs and avoids tax and other related frauds.
The new e-filing portal allows the service to PAN with Aadhaar through the home page itself. Following are the steps:
STEP 1
Log on to the new e-filing portal 2.0.
STEP 2
On scrolling down on the homepage, move to the ‘Our Services’ tab. Next, click on the option that says ‘Link Aadhaar’ as shown in the picture below. On clicking on this option, you will be redirected to a new window.
STEP 3
On the new window, you will need to enter details like your PAN, Aadhaar number, name as per your Aadhaar card and your mobile number.
Once you fill in the details and cross check their accuracy, you will need to click on the box that says, “I agree to validate my Aadhaar details’.
Also, if only year of birth is mentioned in the ‘Aadhaar card’ without date and month, then tick the check box asking ‘I have only year of birth in Aadhaar card’. Once you check the box, click on ‘Continue’ to go ahead in the process.
STEP 4
Next, to proceed, you will receive a 6-digit OTP on your registered mobile number. This OTP will remain valid for 15 minutes only. The timer on the screen will notify once the validity of the OTP expires. You will need to enter this OTP on the verification page on your screen. Once you enter the OTP, click on the option that says, ‘Validate’.

Once you validate the OTP, a pop-up will appear on the screen to notify you that a request to link your PAN to your Aadhaar has been submitted.
To check the status of your PAN with Aadhar linking, you will need to follow the steps mentioned below :
STEP 1
Log in to the new e-filing portal 2.0.
STEP 2
You will need to click on the tab that says ‘Our Services’. On clicking on this tab, four different choices will appear on your screen. Out of these four choices, click on the third that says, ‘Link Aadhaar’.
STEP 3
Next, you will be led to the next step in which you will need to enter your PAN and Aadhaar number in the spaces provided on your screen.
Once you enter these details, click on the tab that says, ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’.
STEP 4
On clicking on the tab mentioned in the previous step, a pop-up will appear on your screen with a notification that says, ‘Your PAN <SMXXXXXX4T> is linked to Aadhaar number <XXXX XXXX 5246>
This notification is a confirmation that your PAN has been linked to your Aadhaar and hence, the process is complete.
Alternatively, you can check the status of your PAN linkage with the Aadhaar post login to your personal account.
STEP 1
Log in to your account with credentials- user name and password as above.
STEP 2
After you have logged in, your log in page will appear on the screen. On this screen, you can further click on your user name reflecting on the top right hand corner . You can further select ‘My profile’ option from the drop down.
STEP 3
A new screen will appear, which will display your personal details and a ‘linked’ status just next to your Aadhaar number.
