How To Make Tax Payment On The Income Tax Portal Without Logging In

Paying your income tax online is quick and convenient through the Income Tax Department's e-Pay Tax facility. You can pay advance tax, self-assessment tax, regular assessment tax, or other direct taxes either by logging into the e-Filing portal or without logging in using your PAN or TAN and OTP verification.

How to Pay Income Tax Without Logging In?

The Income Tax e-Filing portal allows taxpayers to pay taxes without signing in to their account. This pre-login e-Pay Tax facility is useful if you only need to make a tax payment and do not want to access your e-Filing dashboard. You'll need your PAN (or TAN), access to the mobile number linked to it for OTP verification, and the relevant tax payment details.

The payment can be completed using Net Banking, UPI, Debit or Credit Card, Payment Gateway, RTGS or NEFT, or Pay at Bank Counter, depending on your preference.

Step 1: Visit the e-Pay Tax Portal

Go to the Income Tax e-Filing portal and click e-Pay Tax on the home page. This option lets you initiate a tax payment without logging into your account.

Step 2: Enter Your PAN or TAN

Provide your PAN (for individual taxpayers) or TAN (for deductors), enter your mobile number, and click Continue. Ensure the mobile number is active, as an OTP will be sent for verification.

Step 3: Verify the OTP

Enter the 6-digit OTP received on your registered mobile number. Once verified, the portal will display your masked name and PAN/TAN details for confirmation.

Step 4: Choose the Tax Payment Category

Select the tax payment tile applicable to you, such as Advance Tax, Self-Assessment Tax, Regular Assessment Tax, or any other relevant category. If prompted, choose the applicable Income Tax Act—Income Tax Act, 1961 for earlier assessment years or Income Tax Act, 2025 for Tax Year 2026-27 onwards.

Step 5: Enter Tax Payment Details

Select the relevant Assessment Year or Tax Year, Minor Head, and other required details. Then enter the tax breakup under the appropriate heads before proceeding to the payment page. Double-check the information to avoid challan correction requests later.

Step 6: Select Your Preferred Payment Mode

Choose from the available payment options such as Net Banking, UPI, Payment Gateway, Debit Card, RTGS or NEFT, or Pay at Bank Counter. The available options may vary depending on your bank.

Step 7: Review and Make the Payment

Verify all the payment details, tax breakup, and assessment year before clicking Pay Now. You will be redirected to your selected payment mode to complete the transaction securely.

Step 8: Download the Challan Receipt

After successful payment, download and save the challan receipt containing the CIN/CRN, BSR Code, Challan Serial Number, payment date, and amount. This receipt serves as proof of tax payment and is required while filing your Income Tax Return or responding to any future tax queries.
