A taxpayer needs to log in to the GST portal with his login credentials to conduct all GST-related compliance activities. A taxpayer needs to have an account on the GST portal for performing various activities. The portal also allows individuals to retrieve GST usernames, GST passwords, etc., for protecting their Information.
For retrieving the username, a taxpayer has to perform the below steps:
Step 1: Go to the web browser and open the URL www.gst.gov.in. As the web portal opens, the GST home page is displayed.
Step 2: The taxpayer then clicks on the “Existing User Login” button.
Step 3. The web portal’s login page appears on clicking the “Existing User Login” button. The taxpayer then needs to click on the “Forgot Username” hyperlink just below the “Login” button, as shown in the image below.
Step 4. On clicking the “Forgot Username” hyperlink, another page requesting provisional ID appears. The taxpayer needs to key in the provisional ID field received via e-mail, SMS, or communication from the respective state tax department.
Step 5. Also, on this page, the taxpayer needs to type the characters as seen in the image below the “Provisional ID” field known as captcha.
Step 6. After entering the details above, the taxpayer needs to generate a one-time password (OTP) by clicking the “Generate OTP” button. The OTP will be sent to the taxpayer’s registered e-mail and mobile number.
Step 7. Once the taxpayer receives the OTP, the same needs to be entered in the “Enter OTP” field, as shown in the image below.
Step 8. The taxpayer needs to click on the “Continue” button to proceed further.
Step 9. After submitting the OTP, a page with security questions is displayed. The taxpayer needs to answer the security questions provided when enrolling with the GST portal.
Step 10. Once all the questions have been answered correctly, the taxpayer clicks the “Submit” button.
Once all the steps are completed in the sequential order mentioned above, a message “Username has been emailed to your registered email address” appears. The taxpayer should check his email to retrieve GST username.
For retrieving the password, a taxpayer has to perform the below steps:
Step 1. Go to the web browser and open the URL www.gst.gov.in. As the web portal opens, the GST home page is displayed.
Step 2. The taxpayer then needs to click on the “Existing User Login” button.
Step 3. The web portal’s login page appears on clicking the “Existing User Login” button. The taxpayer then needs to click on the “Forgot Password” hyperlink as shown in the image below.
Step 4. On clicking the “Forgot Username” hyperlink, another page requesting “Username” appears. The taxpayer needs to key in the username created when enrolling with the GST portal.
Step 5. Also, on this page, the taxpayer needs to type the characters as seen in the image below the “Provisional ID” field known as captcha.
Step 6. After entering the details above, the taxpayer needs to generate a one-time password (OTP) by clicking the “Generate OTP” button. The OTP will be sent to the taxpayer’s registered e-mail and the registered mobile number.
Step 7. Once the taxpayer receives the OTP, the same needs to be entered in the “Enter OTP” field as shown in the image below.
Step 8. The taxpayer needs to click on the “Continue” button to proceed further.
Step 9. After submitting the OTP, a page requesting a new password is displayed. The taxpayer needs to provide the new password twice.
Step 10. Once the new password has been keyed in, the taxpayer needs to click the “Submit” button.
Once all the steps are completed in the sequential order mentioned above, a message “Your password has been successfully reset” appears. The taxpayer can now log in to the GST portal with the help of the new password.
