According to the recent updates on the GST portal, a registered taxpayer can now avail the facility of withdrawing his application to cancel GST registration in Form GST REG-16.
If a registered taxpayer has made an application to cancel his GST registration by mistake and wishes to withdraw such an application, he could now do so. However, such withdrawal application for GST registration is possible only if the proper officer hasn’t initiated an action against the cancellation application submitted by the said taxpayer. Thus, before submitting the withdrawal of the cancellation application, the taxpayer must track the status of his cancellation application.
Steps to check the status of the GST registration cancellation application:
Step 1:Visit site https://www.gst.gov.in/,
Step 2: Log in by entering the appropriate login credentials,
Step 3: Navigate to Services > Registration > Track Application Status
Step 4: Enter ARN.
Revocation of GST registration cancellation application is applicable when a tax official has cancelled a registered taxpayer’s GST registration by initiating suo moto proceedings. In such a case, the aggrieved taxpayer could apply for revocation of such cancellation of GST registration by visiting the GST portal.
As per the recent notification by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on the GST website, a registered taxpayer can now withdraw his application for cancellation of GST registration via Form REG-16.
Step 1. Go to the web browser and open the URL www.gst.gov.in. As the web portal opens, the GST home page is displayed.
Step 2. The taxpayer then needs to click on the ‘Login’ button, as shown in the image below.
Step 3. After clicking the ‘Login’ button, the taxpayer needs to provide his valid username and password to login into the GST portal, as shown in the image below.
Step 4. After logging in to the GST portal, the registered taxpayer must navigate through Services → User Services → View My Submissions as shown in the image below.
Step 4. After clicking the ‘View My Submissions’ button from the drop-down list, the application for GST registration cancellation is displayed, as shown in the image above. The taxpayer needs to click the ‘Withdraw’ button beside the application for GST registration cancellation, as highlighted by an arrow in the image above.
Step 5. After clicking the ‘Withdraw’ button, the taxpayer needs to confirm the same, and his application for GST registration cancellation will be withdrawn.
