The Maharashtra government introduced the MAHAGST portal under its Digital India initiative to make it easier for taxpayers to file their GST returns. The MAHAGST portal, available at mahagst.gov.in., enables taxpayers to apply for GST registration, make e-payments, and download their GST registration certificate.

The MAHAGST portal is an initiative of the Maharashtra government to maximise tax collection while easing the tax filing process for taxpayers. This portal administers various services related to the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Value Added Tax (VAT), and Profession Tax in an objective, uniform, well-structured, and proficient manner.
Taxpayers based in Maharashtra can easily make GST registrations, file GST returns, make online payments, locate GSTP, and assess the e-way bill system through the MAHAGST portal.
The official MAHAGST website offers a plethora of services. You can easily find them by browsing the homepage of www.mahagst.gov.in. Some of the services offered by the MAHAGST portal are listed below.
E-Services
Now, we are aware of the services available on the MAHAGST portal. What are the steps that you should take to avail of them? We break down the registration process in detail below.
To register as a New Dealer on the MAHAGST portal, you will need to take the following steps:
Step 1: Visit www.mahagst.gov.in to access the MAHAGST portal.
Step 2: Scroll down and click on ‘Other Acts Registration.’
Step 3: On the ‘Other Acts Registration,’ select ‘New Dealer Registration.’
Step 4: You will now be taken to the ‘New Registration’ page. Here, click on ‘New Registration under various acts.’
Step 5: You will now be shown the instructions along with the documents required for completing the registration. After going through them, scroll down and click the ‘Next’ button.
Step 6: You will now find yourself on the ‘Type of Applicant’ page. Click on ‘New Dealer’ and press ‘Next’ located at the bottom right of the page.
Step 7: Fill in your PAN/TAN details and continue following the registration process.
The average time required for registering on the MAHAGST portal can range between 12-20 minutes.
After successfully registering on the MAHAGST portal, you will get a user id and password. You can use this for your future login activity on the common GST portal.
To login into the MAHAGST portal, follow the steps outlined below.
Step 1: Visit www.mahagst.gov.in to access the MAHAGST portal.
Step 2: Scroll down and click on ‘Log in for e-services’ tile.
Step 3: Here, you can choose between ‘Log in for VAT and Allied Acts’, ‘Profile for Registered Dealers,’ and ‘RTO Login.’
Step 4: Click on ‘Profile for Registered Dealers.’ You will now find yourself on the ‘Temporary Profile’ page.
Step 5: Click on ‘Registered Active Dealer’ and press the ‘Next’ button. Fill in your details and continue following the procedure.
You can also make your GST payments online from the MAHAGST portal. We enumerate the steps below.
Step 1: Visit www.mahagst.gov.in to access the MAHAGST portal.
Step 2: Scroll down and click on the ‘e-Payments’ tile.
Step 3: Here, you can choose the required option from a list of ‘e-Payment – Returns’, ‘Return/Order Dues,’ ‘e-Payment – Assessment Order,’ ‘PTEC OTPT Payment,’ ‘Amnesty-Instalment Payment,’ and ‘PT/Old Acts Payment History.’
Step 4: Follow the instructions listed on the next page.
The MAHAGST portal has been a tremendous help to taxpayers in Maharashtra as it has digitalised the complex process of GST registration and cancellation, filing of returns, and making e-payments. The entire process has been streamlined and can be done online with a few clicks.
Furthermore, the Maharashtra government is making efforts to further ease the transition to GST by announcing an amnesty scheme which aims to resolve all pre-GST disputes once and for all.
For raising a service request on the MAHAGST portal, log on to www.mahagst.gov.in and click on the ‘May I Help You?’ tile. Choose ‘Service Request’ and fill in your details.
For verifying the GSTIN number, log on to www.mahagst.gov.in and select the ‘Dealer Services’ tab available in the top column. Then, click on ‘Know your GST taxpayer.’ You will be taken to the GST portal at https://services.gst.gov.in/services/searchtp. Enter the GSTIN and click ‘Search.’ In case you are not sure about the GSTIN number, then choose ‘Know your Taxpayer’ from the ‘Dealer Services’ dropdown list. Enter the TIN number and click ‘Submit.’
There are two ways of resetting the password on www.mahagst.gov.in. The first method is to click on Forget Password, and it will take you to https://mahagst.gov.in/mstd/forgotpass/index.html. Fill in your details and submit them to set a new password. The second method is to send an email from the registered email id with details of TIN, PAN, mobile number, and email id to the Personal Assistant (PA) of the Joint Commissioner of State Tax.
