Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is a government-backed savings scheme wherein both the employee and the employer contribute monthly a minimum of 12% of the basic salary to the employee's EPF account. Individuals can withdraw the accumulated funds in the EPF account under specific conditions. However, monitoring the EPF claim status is important to ensure the entire process is completed efficiently.

What is EPFO Claim Status?

EPFO claim status refers to the current status of the application on the EPFO withdrawal. It gives a quick insight on the withdrawal process development, allowing applicants to address potential delays or errors effectively. 

What are the Pre-requisites to Check EPFO Withdrawal Status? 

To know the status of your claim, the following information should be available to you:

a. Universal Account Number (UAN)  
b. EPF regional office of your employer  
c. Employer details  
d. Extension code (if relevant)

Keep the above information/documents handy, and then follow the below steps to check the status of your claim online.

 

How To Check Your EPFO Withdrawal Status Online?

The EPFO has made both an online and offline process accessible to check the status of your requisition. Below are the ways to check the status of your EPFO withdrawal claim online.

1. Using EPFO Website

Step 1: Go to the EPFO website. Click on ‘Services’ > ‘For Employees’ option.

Step 3: Click on the link, and it will redirect you to the member passbook application.

Step 4: Login by entering the Universal Account Number (UAN), password and captcha.

Step 5: Now, you will find the option > ‘View Claim Status’. Click on the same and view the progress on your claim status.

SMS Alerts From EPFO

For the claimant’s benefit, the EPFO also sends alerts via SMS if a mobile number has been linked to the account. The SMS is sent in the following two instances.

1. On receipt of claim application.

2. On transfer of funds to the claimant’s bank account.

2. Using the UAN Member Portal

Step 1: Log in to the UAN Member Portal through UAN and Password.

Step 2: Under the ‘Online Services’ tab, click on the ‘Track Claim Status’ option.

Step 3: The details regarding the status of the withdrawal claim will appear on the screen.

Users who have opted for an offline option will not be able to track the EPFO claim status online via this portal. However, they can track easily through the EPFO's official website.

3. Using the UMANG App

Employees can check their PF transfer/withdrawal claim status online using the UMANG app. The UMANG app must be downloaded and is available on both iOS and Android platforms. However, it is essential that the employee has updated their mobile number with their UAN. Follow the steps mentioned below to know your claim status via the UMANG app:

Step 1: Download and install the UMANG app on your mobile phone using Play Store or App Store. 

Step 2: Log in to your EPFO account, there will be 2 options – ‘MPIN’ and ‘Login with OTP’. Enter your mobile number and select your preferred option.

Step 3: If you opt to ‘Login with OTP, enter the received OTP in the given space to log into your EPFO account.

After entering your OTP, click on ‘Login’.

Step 4: You will then be redirected to the EPFO portal main page. Here, select ‘Employee Centric Services’.

Step 5: Select ‘Track Claim’ and you will then be redirected to a page where you can view your claim status.

Step 6: If you have no claims, there will be nothing displayed on the screen. In case you have claims, the screen will display your claim status details.

How to Check EPFO Claim Status Offline?

The EPFO claim status can be checked offline through the following means:

1. By Giving a Missed Call

Employees can check the status of their PF claim by making a missed call to 011-22901406 using their registered mobile number. However, the employee must make sure that their mobile number is linked with their UAN. An employee will have to update their Permanent Account Number (PAN), Aadhaar, and bank account information on the UAN portal.

There will be no charges on the call made by the employee. The claim details will be sent via SMS to the employee’s registered mobile number.

2. By Calling EPFO Toll Free Number

Employees can check their EPFO withdrawal/transfer claim status by calling the EPFO 24×7 customer care number – 1800 118 005. Employees need to keep their PF Account Number or UAN handy as the helpline officer will ask for it for checking the status of the claims.

3. Via SMS

An employee can also check the status of a PF claim via SMS. An employee needs to link their mobile number with the UAN portal. An SMS needs to be sent from that mobile number to 7738299899.

SMS should be sent in the following format ‘EPFOHO UAN LAN’. Here ‘LAN’ refers to the language an employee would like to receive the details in.

Who is Eligible to Apply for EPFO Claim?

An individual having an EPFO account is eligible to raise an EPF withdrawal claim in the following situations:

What are the Different Stages of PF Claim Status?

The various stages of EPFO claim status are described below:

Payment under process

1. Claim is still in process.

2. The status will change to "Claim Settled" after EPFO transfers the money to your bank account.

1. Claim has been accepted and processed by EPFO. 

2. Money has already been transferred to the bank or will happen soon.

Rejected

The previous or current employer could reject your claim due to various reasons, such as: 

1. Mismatch in details. 

2. Signature mismatch.

3. Failure to submit the signed claim printout within 15 days after making an online claim.

Not available

The claim has not yet been processed.

What are the Different types of EPFO Claim Forms?

Before proceeding with the PF claim process online or offline, the applicant must furnish respective forms to the concerned authority. Below is the list of forms to choose from in response to different situations.

  • Form 13: To transfer the accumulated EPFO fund to a new EPFO account when the job is changed.
  • Form 14: To pay for a LIC policy.
  • Form 31: To raise a claim for advance or temporary EPFO withdrawal.
  • Form 10D: To claim pension fund when the EPFO account holder is below 58 years and has to leave an establishment or company owing to physical disability.
  • Form 20: To raise EPFO claim by a nominee of the deceased EPFO member account.
  • Form 10C: To claim withdrawal benefit or scheme certificate as per the Employees' Pension Scheme.  

How to Cancel EPFO Withdrawal Claim?

There is no option to cancel the EPFO claim request online. An individual can contact the EPFO regional office to cancel the EPF withdrawal claim request raised online.

How many days will it take to claim PF amount?

Through online mode it takes 4-5 days whereas in offline mode also it takes a maximum of 20 days as stated in the EPF scheme. 

Why my PF claim status is still under process?

PF claim status under process means that your claim is under review at the PF office. After checking your claim request, they will send your PF money to your bank account. 

How do I know my PF withdrawal is approved?

Apart from the option of checking the request status online, EPFO sends SMS alerts to your registered mobile number in the following cases:

  • EPF claim application received
  • Funds transferred to claimant's bank account
What to do if PF claim is pending?

If it is pending from previous employer, contact them to approve your request. Otherwise you just have to wait until the PF office verifies your request and transfers the amount to your bank account. 

How much time it will take after EPF payment sent via NEFT?

In general, all claim requests are settled within 20 days. In case of NEFT payments, the process may take upto 3 days at EPFO level and upto 3 days at bank level. 

I have been jobless for more than one month. Can I withdraw from EPF?

No, to withdraw EPF because of being jobless, the period of unemployment must exceed three months.

Is Aadhaar necessary for filing an online EPF claim?

Yes, Aadhaar is necessary to file an online claim.

Is documentary evidence mandatory to withdraw EPF?

Yes, you will have to produce documentary evidence to withdraw EPF.

What is the eligibility to claim EPF?

EPF eligibility is determined by the amount of time spent in service, and it differs across conditions.

Do I need the employer’s approval to file claims?

No, the latest amendments have alleviated the need to seek employers’ approval to file EPF claims.

What is Form 10C and Form 19?

Form 10C is used for pension withdrawal; Form 19 is used for Provident Fund withdrawal.

Is it possible for an employer to reduce its share of contribution towards EPF?

No, an employer cannot reduce its share of contribution towards EPF. It will be considered illegal if an employer reduces its contribution.

What is the retirement age to withdraw the entire EPF amount?

The retirement age to withdraw entire EPF amount is 55 years.  Although 90% of the EPF corpus can be withdrawn at the age of 54, one year before retirement.

How to withdraw the EPF amount of a deceased employee?

The nominee of the PF account or the legal heir of the deceased employee can withdraw the PF account balance by submitting Form 20 to the PF office. They can withdraw the EPS or pension amount through Form 10D. 

Can an employee contribute to the EPF after leaving the service?

No, in the absence of wages & Employer no recovery can be affected. Any contribution by the member must be matched with employer's share of contribution.

I have 2 different UANs with one Member ID linked with each. How do I file online transfer claim in this case?

In such cases, there are no provisions to file online transfer claim. However, an offline claim can be filed furnishing the details of previous and present employment using the form 13. The same must be attested by an authorized signatory of both the companies and should be submitted to the concerned authority.

How to check PF claim status by SMS?

An employee can also check the status of a PF claim via SMS. An employee needs to link their mobile number with the UAN portal. An SMS needs to be sent from that mobile number to 7738299899. SMS format will be ‘EPFOHO UAN LAN’. Here ‘LAN’ refers to the language an employee would like to get the details in.

How to check PF claim rejected status?

Login to your EPFO account and select ‘Track Claim Status’. Check the status and if its rejected, you can also find the reason for the same.

You can track the PF claim status by following these steps:

  • Login to the UAN Portal using UAN, password and captcha
  • Select the option ‘View Claim Status’ and the status of the claim would be displayed on the screen.
