Latest Update:

The EPFO had prolonged the UAN-Aadhaar linking deadline until April 2023. Those who missed the deadline could have still opted for linking by March 2024. Individuals can opt to link these two either online or offline, based on their convenience.

If you want to withdraw funds from your PF account, it is important to link your Employee Provident Fund (EPF) account with your Aadhaar number. This is one of many benefits of linking your EPF account with your Aadhaar number. Just like how Aadhaar number recognises an Aadhar card, Universal Account Number (UAN) identifies an EPF account.

Linking your Aadhaar with the Provident Fund (PF) account is now mandatory

Linking aadhaar to UAN will facilitate faster withdrawals and a quick transfer process. But to avail these faster services, it is important that your details are verified by your employer. After submitting, you can check for these details under the 'pending KYC' option.

If you want to file an online claim of your EPF, then it is mandatory to seed your UAN with Aadhaar. Also, your employer will be able to file Employee-cum-Return (ECR) challans and deposit funds to your EPF account only if your PF account is linked to your Aadhaar card.

The linking can be done either online on the EPFO portal or offline.

3 Ways to Link Aadhaar With Your EPF Account

  • Using the official EPFO portal. (This is currently not available)
  • By visiting the nearest EPFO office
  • Using the Umang app (This is currently not available)

Linking of Aadhaar with PF Account Through Online Mode

The employee needs to follow the steps mentioned below to link his/her PF to his/her Aadhaar:

Step 1: Visit the Unified Portal of Employees’ Provident Fund and login by entering UAN and password

Step 2: Click on ‘Manage’ on the top panel and then on ‘KYC’

Step 3: On the next page, under the ‘Add KYC’ tab, provide your bank, PAN, Aadhaar and passport details. Then click on ‘submit’. After submitting, you can find these details under the ‘Pending KYC’ tab. Once approved by the employer (which would generally take 15 days), it will be shown under the ‘Approved KYC’ tab.

Linking your Aadhaar to the EPF account will help in a faster withdrawal and transfer process. For that, the present employer should have approved and verified the KYC, including the employee’s Aadhaar details.

Linking of Aadhaar With PF Account Through Offline Mode

  1. An employee has to fill in the ‘Aadhaar Seeding Application’ form along with his/her UAN and Aadhaar number details along with other required information.
  2. An employee has to attach self-attested copies of his/her UAN, PAN, and Aadhaar with this form.
  3. An employee has to submit these documents at the field offices of EPFO or Common Services Centres (CSC).
  4. Once the verification is completed, the Aadhaar number will be linked to the employee’s EPF account. After that, the employee will receive a message on his/her registered mobile number.

Linking of Aadhaar With PF Account Using Umang App

The option of linking Aadhaar and UAN is currently unavailable. The steps to be followed earlier were -

  1. Log in to the UMANG app using your ‘MPIN’ or the ‘OTP’ option.
  2. After logging in, navigate to the ‘All Services Tab’ and choose ‘EPFO’.
  3. Choose ‘e-KYC services’, under the EPFO section.
  4. Choose the ‘Aadhaar Seeding’ option under ‘e-KYC services’.
  5. Enter your UAN and click on ‘Get OTP’. You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number with your EPF Account.
  6. Key in your Aadhaar information.
  7. You will again receive an OTP on your registered mobile number and email address.
  8. Once the OTP verification is done, your Aadhaar will be linked to your UAN.

How to Know if Your Aadhaar Number is Linked to Your PF Account?

You need to follow the steps mentioned below to know if your Aadhaar number is already linked to your PF account:

  1. Click here to visit the official website.
  2. Log in by entering your UAN and password.
  3. The member homepage will open, look for Aadhaar from the details displayed on the page.
  4. If ‘Verified (DEMOGRAPHIC)’ is written against your Aadhaar number, it is confirmed that your Aadhaar has been linked to your EPF account and it has also been verified by UIDAI.

What are the Benefits of Linking Aadhaar With Your EPF Account?

The PF needs to be seeded with an Aadhaar card before it can be linked to the UAN. To continue receiving benefits and accessing EPF, employees must link their UAN with Aadhaar, as mandated by the EPFO. All Indian employees can now access and manage their PF accounts online.

EPFO with more than 4 crore subscribers has instructed its members to link their Aadhaar with their EPF account to facilitate easy verification of details. Following are a few benefits of linking your Aadhaar number with your EPF account:

  • You will be able to withdraw your PF online without an employer’s attestation. The complete process can be executed online in a hassle-free manner.
  • There will be lesser chances of discrepancies and errors in the data when your Aadhaar is linked with your EPF and UAN, as your information remains consistent with your Aadhaar card information.
  • Brings down the chances of having a duplicate account.
  • After the linking is approved, your Aadhaar details will show under the ‘Approved KYC’ tab.
