You can file your returns online with the help of your Aadhar Card.
Taxpayers no longer have to send a 1-page verification document i.e. the ITR-V to the Income Tax Department in Bangalore. Instead, they can verify their returns online with the help of an Electronic Verification Code (EVC).
Latest Updates
The CBDT has reduced the time limit of ITR verification to 30 days (from 120 days) from the date of return submission. The new rule is applicable for the returns filed online on or after 1st August 2022. For the income tax returns filed up to 31st July 2022, the time limit for ITR verification remains 120 days.
Recent Updates
An Electronic Verification Code (EVC) is a 10 digit alphanumeric code that is sent to the registered mobile number of the tax filer while filing his/her returns online. It helps verify the identity of the tax filers. Such tax filers include individuals as well as Hindu Undivided Family (HUF). The individuals are required to self-verify their returns while the Karta must verify the returns of the HUF. An EVC can be generated through the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department.
Step 1:Log on to the Department’s e-filing website.
Step 2: Go to the ‘e-file’ tab on the dashboard >> select ‘Income Tax Returns’ >> then select ‘e-verify return’.
Step 3:
Choose the most recent ITR for which e-verification is pending.
Step 4: On the next screen select the first option ‘I would like to e-verify using OTP on mobile number registered with Aadhaar‘. For verification through Aadhaar OTP, your mobile number must be linked to Aadhaar and also your PAN-Aadhaar must be linked.
Step 5: Check the box and click on ‘Generate Aadhaar OTP’. Note that the OTP is valid only for 15 minutes.
Step 6: Lastly, enter the OTP number and hit ‘Submit’. You will then receive a message that reads ‘Return successfully e-Verified. Download the Acknowledgement.’ The same acknowledgement will be automatically sent to your registered email id. You have now successfully e-filed and e-verified your income tax return.
