When there are any changes in your personal or other details, you must update your profile on the income tax e-filing portal to maintain the accuracy of information. You can update various details on the income tax portal through my profile/update profile service.
The income tax department has divided profile information into three categories:
Step 1: Log in to the income tax e-filing portal by entering your credentials.
Step 2: Click on your profile picture in the top right corner and select ‘My Profile’ from the dropdown. Alternatively, you can select the ‘Update Profile’ button, as shown below.
Step 3: Click on the ‘Edit’ button in the ‘Profile’ section.
Step 4: The ‘Profile’ section will display your name, date of birth, gender, PAN, and PAN status. You can edit or update your name by entering the changed name. You can also edit your date of birth, PAN number, citizenship, residential status and passport details. If your Aadhaar number is linked, you can find the status as ‘Linked’ beside the Aadhaar number. Click on the ‘Save’ button once you edit the details.
Step 1: Log in to the income tax e-filing portal by entering your credentials.
Step 2: Click on your profile picture in the top right corner and select ‘My Profile’ from the dropdown. Alternatively, you can select the ‘Update Profile’ button, as shown below.
Step 3: On the personal details page, click on the ‘Edit’ button under the ‘Contact’ section.
Step 4: You can update the contact details here, such as mobile number, email ID and address as per your PAN or Aadhaar card and click on ‘Save’.
Step 4 (a): To update contact information as per Aadhaar, click the ‘Update as per PAN/Aadhaar’ hyperlink and confirm it in the new pop-up message. You will receive an OTP on your mobile number registered with UIDAI and email ID. On the ‘Verify your Contact Details’ page, enter the OTP received on your mobile number and email ID and click ‘Submit’.
Step 5: Upon successful updation of contact details, a success message will be displayed, as shown in the below image.
Note: When you update your mobile number and email ID as your per bank account details, you will get the OTP on your primary mobile number and primary email ID entered on the e-filing portal. When you update your mobile number and email ID as per your Aadhaar card details, and no other edits have been made, you do not have to verify the mobile number. However, you must verify the email ID. When you only update address details as per PAN or Aadhaar, no OTP authentication will be required.

Step 3: You can update all other details by clicking on the respective options available in the left-hand side menu.
By logging in to the income tax e-filing portal, taxpayers can easily update their information, including name, address, mobile number, email ID, bank details, etc., from the comfort of their homes.
