The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) registration, also known as the Food License, is a mandatory license required by all entities involved in food businesses in Delhi. The FSSAI is an independent organisation established under the Food Safety and Standard (FSS) Act, 2006, to regulate and establish standards for food products in India.
In Delhi, the Department of Food Safety is responsible for implementing the provisions of the FSS Act and rules. The Food Safety Commissioner for Delhi heads the Department of Food Safety in Delhi. The department regulates or prohibits the sale, manufacturing, distribution and storage of food particles that are substandard, unsafe or misbranded.
There are three types of FSSAI registration in Delhi based on the annual turnover and production capacity, which are as follows:
FSSAI Basic Registration: All Food Business Operators (FBOs) whose annual turnover is below Rs.12 lakh should apply for FSSAI Basic Registration in Form-A. The designated officer notified by the Food Safety Commissioner in Delhi grants this registration.
FSSAI State Registration: All FBOs whose annual turnover is above Rs.12 lakh but below Rs.20 crore should apply for FSSAI State Registration in Form-B. The office of the Food Safety Commissioner in Delhi grants this registration.
FSSAI Central Registration: All FBOs whose annual turnover is above Rs.2 crore should apply for FSSAI Central Registration in Form-B. The Central FSSAI authority grants this registration.

An FSSAI registration or license is mandatory to manufacture, distribute, export, import and store food articles. It is also required for opening and operating a food business in Delhi.
