GST collections for April 2024 were released on the PIB portal on May 1, 2024. April 2024, GST collections stood at an all-time high of Rs.2,10,267 crore, growing from Rs.1,78,484 crore in March 2024.
GST collections for April 2024 have broken all the previous records. Meanwhile, the GST collections for March 2024 hit the second highest for FY23-24. January 2024 recorded the second-highest monthly collection ever since GST began!
After taking into account all the GST refunds, April 2024 net GST revenue works out to Rs.1.92 lakh crore. It indicates an impressive 15.5% Y-o-Y growth compared to last year.
In April 2024, the centre settled Rs.50,307 crore to CGST and Rs.41,600 crore to SGST from the IGST collected. This translates to a total revenue of Rs.94,153 crore for CGST and Rs.95,138 crore for SGST for April 2024 after regular settlement.
GST collections for CGST work out to Rs.43,846 crore, whereas for SGST is Rs.53,538 crore. Also, the IGST collections amounted to Rs.99,623 crore, and the Cess amounted to Rs.13,260 crore. IGST included Rs.37,826 crore, and the cess covered Rs.1,008 crore collected for imported goods.
The press release on 1st May 2024 by the Finance Ministry indicated that the centre settled Rs.50,307 crore towards CGST and Rs.41,600 crore towards SGST from the IGST collected.
Accordingly, the total revenue for CGST is Rs.94,153 crore and for SGST is Rs.95,138 crore after regular settlement for April 2024.
The April 2024 GST monthly collections saw a whopping jump from the previous years. The April 2024 collections are higher by about 25% compared to the average monthly collection for the fiscal year 2023-24 of Rs.1.68 lakh crore.
The monthly GST collections for April 2024 represent a significant 12.4% Y-o-Y growth. It is driven by a strong increase in domestic transactions (up 13.4%) and imports (up 8.3%).

The PIB has released the state-wise GST collections for April 2024. Maharashtra has once again topped the list in terms of absolute numbers. It is followed by Karnataka, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Haryana.
As far as the highest YoY growth is concerned, Mizoram and Assam have recorded more than 25% YoY growth rate compared to the same month in the last year. The number of states recording more than 25% growth in monthly GST collections has surprisingly dropped compared to March 2024. Chandigarh, Delhi, Bihar and Goa have shown a 23% Y-o-Y growth in the monthly revenue compared to April 2023.
States with the highest contribution to the monthly revenue, such as Maharashtra and Karnataka, show Y-oY growth of 13% and 9%, respectively.
