The minimum wages of workers are categorised depending on their skill levels, which are as follows:

  • Unskilled: Unskilled labour involves physical tasks such as lifting, pulling, pushing, moving loads, digging, cleaning, and gardening. They also perform roles like washing, packaging, and wrapping and may work as rickshaw drivers, gatekeepers, security guards, peons, oilmen, etc.
  • Semi-Skilled—II: Workers at this level have not completed intermediate education but have gained skills through experience. They perform roles such as tailors, barbers, plumbers, carpenters, whitewashers, drill men, bookbinders, furniture polishers, etc.
  • Semi-Skilled – I: These workers have an intermediate level of education and relevant job experience. The positions in this category include dry cleaners, glass cutters, cooks, photographers,  head waiters, guides, computer operators, camera operators, decorators, chemists, lab assistants, and refrigerator mechanics.
  • Skilled – II: Workers with certified technical or trade qualifications from a recognised institution fall into this category. Examples include painters,  lithographers, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, medical compounders, electricians, television and radio technicians, etc.
  • Skilled – I: Individuals holding a diploma from a government-recognized institution are classified here. Job roles in this category include advertisers, marketing professionals, medical representatives, chefs, etc.
  • Highly Skilled: These are individuals who have graduated in engineering, specialised fields or professional trade from a government-recognised institute. Positions in this category include managers, officers,  executives, and similar roles.
  • Class III (Staff): This category includes individuals with a matriculation qualification. Examples include cashiers, clerks, storekeepers, personal assistants, legal assistants, telephone operators, radiology technicians, ticket checkers and collectors, nursing aides, and similar roles.
  • Class – II (Staff): This category includes graduates without a technical specialisation. Positions include store managers, stenographers, salespersons, artisans, accountants, and architects, etc.
  • Class – I (Staff): This category comprises medical officers, doctors, pharmacists, surgeons, dentists, executive engineers, and office supervisors but does not exercise managerial functions.
