The GST collection report for September 2024 was released on 1st October 2024. As per the detailed report available on the GST portal, the gross monthly GST Collection stands at Rs.1,73,240 crores, showing a year-on-year growth of 6.5% compared to the same month last year, when it stood at Rs.1.62 lakh crore. However, the month-on-month numbers have marginally dipped in absolute terms by approximately 1% from Rs.1.75 lakh crore in August 2024.
The monthly GST collections for September 2024 show a fair year-on-year growth of 6.5%. CGST for September 2024 accounted for Rs.31,422 crore, SGST was Rs.39,283 crores, IGST stood at Rs.90,594 crores, and Cess was Rs.11,941 crores. We can observe a nominal year-on-year increase in domestic transactions (up 5.9%) and imports (up 8%).
The Government has released the state-wise GST collections for September 2024 as well. The past month’s trend continues for this month, with Maharashtra leading states for the absolute gross monthly revenue in September 2024. It is followed by states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
The states showing the highest YoY growth for September 2024 include Haryana and Ladakh, which showed a 24% growth rate compared to September 2023. They are followed by Andaman and Nicobar Island, Delhi, and Uttarakhand, which posted 14-24% growth rates.
States with the highest monthly revenue contribution, such as Karnataka and Maharashtra, showed a Y-o-Y growth of 8% and 5%, respectively.

Post-Settlement GST is cumulative of the GST revenues of the States/UTs and the SGST portion of the IGST settled to the States/UT
We can expect a steep rise in GST revenues in the coming months with the festive season kicking in and GST rate rationalisation measures in the upcoming GST Council meetings. The government started releasing the GST monthly revenue report on the GST portal in a few months. The September 2024 monthly GST revenue report was released on 1st October 2024.
