The Jagananna Chedodu scheme is a state government welfare scheme launched on 10 June 2020 for small businessmen residing in Andhra Pradesh (AP). The small businessman includes all tailors, barbers and washermen of AP state who lost their livelihood due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The government will provide financial benefits to the beneficiaries of this scheme.
The financial assistance will be transferred directly to the beneficiary’s accounts. The beneficiaries of this scheme are identified and shortlisted through surveys. The assistance of around Rs.247.04 crores will be disbursed to around 2,47,040 beneficiaries under this scheme.
Under the Jagananna Chedodu scheme, the government provides Rs.10,000 per year to the Rajakas (washermen), Nayee Brahmins (barbers) and tailors in Backward Class (BC) community. The beneficiaries can utilise the amount for purchasing equipment, tools, and other essentials for growing their work establishment and source of income. The benefit provided to the beneficiaries will help them fulfil their investment needs.

The government will identify and shortlist the beneficiaries for the Jagananna Chedodu scheme through the Navasakam surveys conducted by the ward or village volunteers across the state. The volunteers will present a list of qualified applicants to the ward and village secretaries, and a social audit will be carried out to choose the beneficiaries.
The final beneficiary list will be communicated to the citizens through the ward secretariat. The benefit amount will be deposited through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the beneficiary’s bank accounts. If the name of any beneficiary is not there on the list, he/she can contact the ward secretariat.
