GST Collections December 2024: State Wise Break-up of GST Collections December 2024

The GST collection report for December 2024 was released on 1st January 2025 by the GST Network. As per the detailed advisory released on the GST portal, the gross monthly GST collection stands at Rs.1,76,857 crores, as compared to last month's GST collections, which stood at Rs.1,82,269 crores. The month-on-month numbers have slowed down compared to the previous month, indicating a momentum softening.

Analysis of the GST Collection for December 2024

The monthly GST collections for December 2024 show a healthy year-on-year growth of 7.3%. Key components of the revenue include CGST at Rs.32,836 crore, SGST at Rs.40,499 crore, IGST at Rs.91,221 crore, and cess at Rs.12,301 crore. Domestic transactions witnessed a robust growth of 8.4%, driven by increased economic activity and improved compliance, while revenues from imports grew moderately by 3.9%.

GST Collection for December 2024 State-wise

The Government has released the state-wise GST collections for December 2024, showing a continued upward trend in gross revenues across most states. Maharashtra once again leads the states in absolute gross monthly revenue, followed by Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.

The states/Union Territories with the highest year-on-year (YoY) growth for December 2024 include Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sikkim, Punjab, and Haryana, which posted growth rates of 22%-72%. 

Key contributors to monthly revenue, such as Maharashtra and Karnataka, reported steady YoY growth of 9% and 7%, respectively. These figures reaffirm the robust GST framework and the sustained economic recovery across India's states and Union Territories.

Post-Settlement GST is cumulative of the GST revenues of the States/UTs and the SGST portion of the IGST settled to the States/UT

India's GST collection for December 2024 reached Rs.1.77 lakh crore, marking a 7.3% year-on-year increase. This growth was primarily driven by an 8.4% rise in domestic transactions, which was supported by steady import revenues. While the overall collection indicates robust economic activity, it represents a slight slowdown as compared to November's Rs.1.82 lakh crore. All the figures from this year highlight sustained economic momentum, reflecting ongoing recovery and improved compliance under the GST regime.
