The Government of Andhra Pradesh (AP) announced, ‘Amma Vodi’, a flagship programme as a part of ‘Navaratnalu’ that provides financial assistance to every mother or the recognised guardian in the absence of a mother to enable her for educating her child or children from Class 1 to Class 12 (Intermediate Education).
The financial assistance under this programme is provided to the mothers of below poverty line households, irrespective of religion, creed, caste and region. The assistance is provided to all children studying in schools or junior colleges in Andhra Pradesh from the Academic year 2020-2021.
The eligibility criteria for applying for JaganannaAmmaVodi are the mothers’ or the recognised guardian:
The child’s mother will receive Rs.15,000, irrespective of the number of children, until the child/children complete class 12. The amount of Rs.15,000 is deposited directly in January every year in the beneficiaries’ savings bank accounts until the child/children complete class 12. However, Rs.1,000 will be deducted from Rs.15,000 to improve and maintain the toilet facilities in the school.
It is given to the mothers or a recognised guardian who belong to the BPL households for helping them to educate their children from Class 1 to Intermediate studying in all private aided and private unaided schools, recognised government schools, junior colleges and residential colleges in the State of AP.
Chief Minister YSR Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the second phase of the Jagananna Amma Vodi, where he stated that many poor students of the State of AP do not have access to online classes during the lockdown as they do not have gadgets like computers, smartphones or laptops. For this reason, the beneficiaries of this programme can opt for a laptop instead of the payment of Rs.15,000 financial assistance from the coming year.
The process to apply for the Jagananna Amma Vodi scheme is as follows:
The government will announce the list of beneficiaries selected for this scheme on the website. The government will transfer Rs.15,000 directly to the accounts of the beneficiaries. The parents had to register for this scheme from 10 December 2020 to 20 December 2020 for the academic year 2020-21. The guidelines that provide the dates of the registration will be provided on the website.
