On 25 November 2024, the Delhi Government announced the launch of an online portal to provide senior citizens pensions in Delhi under the Delhi Old Age Pension Scheme. This scheme supports and provides financial assistance to senior citizens with limited family income.

What is Old Age Pension Scheme in Delhi?

The Old Age Pension Scheme in Delhi is a government initiative to provide financial relief to senior citizens in Delhi who require support. The government launched an Old Age Pension Scheme portal that ensures a hassle-free application process to provide financial assistance to senior citizens through monthly pensions.

Currently, an additional 80,000 people are eligible for the old-age pension in Delhi, bringing the total number of beneficiaries under this scheme to 5.3 lakh. Under this scheme, elderly citizens above 60 years will receive monthly financial assistance to their bank account as per the beneficiary’s Aadhaar number through the PFMS portal.

Eligibility Criteria and Age Limit

Below are the Delhi Old Age Pension Scheme eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants must be senior citizens, i.e. at least 60 years old.
  • They must be residents of Delhi for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Their annual family income from all sources must be below Rs.1,00,000. Annual family income from all sources includes rent, earnings from farming, interest/ dividends on savings and investments, property sale proceeds, etc.
  • They must have an Aadhaar number. 
  • They must have a singly-operated Aadhaar-linked bank account in Delhi.
  • They must not receive financial aid or similar pensions from other government schemes.

Documents Required for Delhi Old Age Pension Scheme

Old Age Pension Scheme Delhi documents required are as follows:

  • Age proof (Any one of the following):
    • Aadhaar card 
    • PAN card
    • Ration card
    • Voter ID 
    • Birth certificate issued by MCD or Registrar of Births and Deaths
    • School leaving certificate of the last class attended or any other recognised educational institution
    • Matriculation or 10th certificate
    • Hospital discharge slip at the time of birth
    • Driving license
    • Passport
  • Residence proof (Any one of the following): 
    • Ration card 
    • Voter ID
    • Aadhaar card

How to Apply Online and Offline for Delhi Old Age Pension Scheme?

The Old Age Pension Scheme Delhi application process online is as follows:

  1. Visit the e-District Delhi portal.
  2. Click on the ‘Login/Register’ button.
  3. Click on the ‘Register’ button if you are a new user.
  4. Select the ‘Document Type’ as Aadhaar card, enter the Aadhaar card number, tick the declaration and click ‘Continue’.
  5. Enter the required details and ‘Submit’.
  6. The access code and password will be sent to your mobile number.
  7. Visit the e-District Delhi portal and click the ‘Login/Register’ button.
  8. Enter the access code and password sent to your mobile number. Enter the Captcha code and click ‘Login’.
  9. Click on the ‘Apply Online’ option.
  10. Click on the drop box to apply for services and select the ‘Department of Social Welfare’ under the ‘List of Departments’.
  11. Select the scheme name.
  12. Fill out all the required details on the form, upload the documents and click ‘Finish’.
  13. Enter the OTP sent to your mobile number and click ‘Submit’.
  14. An acknowledgement of successful submission will be generated.

The Old Age Pension Scheme Delhi application process offline is as follows:

  1. Visit the local District Social Welfare Offices.
  2. Obtain the application from the officials. 
  3. Fill out the application and submit it to the Office with the required documents.

After the application is submitted, either offline or online, the District Social Welfare Office scrutinises it and may call the applicant for document verification if necessary. Usually, the applications are processed within 45 days, and the pension payments are made the following month. Thereafter, the pension payments are remitted monthly directly to the beneficiaries’ accounts.
