Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a unique innovation by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) that enables seamless money transfers across bank accounts. It makes online transactions quick and convenient.
HDFC Bank customers can access UPI services by registering as per the guidelines. However, UPI transactions come with certain limits, restricting further transactions once exceeded.
Read on to learn about the HDFC UPI limit and ensure a smooth, hassle-free transaction experience.
UPI transactions are setting new benchmarks in India, thanks to their simplicity and efficiency. To regulate this growing digital payment ecosystem, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has set a daily transfer limit of Rs. 1 lakh per individual.
However, HDFC Bank has specific UPI transaction limits for its customers, which may differ from NPCI's guidelines. Understanding these limits is essential for seamless and uninterrupted transactions.
The HDFC UPI transaction limit is Rs. 1 lakh per day or 20 transactions within 24 hours for both individual-to-individual and individual-to-merchant transfers. For new UPI users, the initial limit is Rs. 5,000 for the first 24 hours on Android devices and 72 hours on iPhones post-registration. These limits apply regardless of the UPI app used.
If you exceed the daily transaction limit, further transactions will be blocked until the next day.
The table below provides the HDFC UPI limit for different scenarios:
UPI Transactions | Maximum Limit |
P2M (Person to Merchant) or P2P (Person to Person) | Rs. 1 lakh or 20 transactions/ 24 Hours |
Merchant collect and Capital markets (Such as Broking, AMC, Mutual Funds, Credit card payments, EMI, Loan repayments, etc.) | Rs. 2 lakh/transaction |
Using UPI for IPO Application | Rs. 5 lakh/transaction |
HDFC Bank does not impose a specific monthly limit for UPI transactions. However, adhering to the daily transaction limit ensures smooth usage. Regularly check HDFC Bank's official website to stay updated on any changes to these limits.
There is no specific yearly limit of UPI transactions for HDFC customers.
HDFC Bank does not levy any charges on UPI transactions for its customers. However, under the new UPI guidelines, a 1.1% interchange fee applies to merchants for UPI transactions above Rs. 2,000 made through Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPI).
HDFC Bank sets a daily UPI transaction limit of Rs. 1 lakh, while new users are limited to Rs. 5,000 for the first 24 hours post-registration. These limits cannot be manually increased. However, the RBI recently announced an increased UPI limit of Rs. 5 lakh for specific transactions like educational fees and hospital bills.
UPI continues to revolutionize online transactions, making them secure and efficient. Every bank, including HDFC, enforces UPI limits to manage the expanding digital payment landscape. Ensure you stay within these limits to avoid transaction issues.
