PAN card update is required when your name, date of birth, address, photograph, signature, or other details on the PAN card need to be corrected or changed. You can complete a PAN card update online through authorised service providers such as Protean (formerly NSDL) or UTIITSL.
This guide explains how to update PAN card online, the documents required, applicable fees, and the process for tracking your application.

From 1 April 2026, revised PAN application forms and correction forms apply under the Income-tax Rules, 2026. Existing PAN holders continue to use their existing PAN and can submit PAN CR-01 for individual changes or corrections and PAN CR-02 for non-individual changes or corrections.

The application forms used for PAN allocation vary based on the applicant’s residential status and entity category. Under the revised PAN framework, the earlier Forms 49A and 49AA have been replaced with a streamlined 4-form structure for new PAN allocations.

Note: Forms 93, 94, 95 and 96 apply to fresh PAN allotments from 1 April 2026. Existing PAN holders who need to change or correct their PAN details should use PAN CR-01 for individuals or PAN CR-02 for non-individuals. A reprint request without changes can be submitted through the dedicated PAN reprint facility.
Existing PAN holders can use PAN CR-01 Form (used for PAN card update for individuals) and PAN CR-02 Form (used for PAN card correction for non-individuals). These forms are available through the Protean PAN services website.
You can update or correct existing PAN details online through the Protean PAN services portal. Individual applicants use PAN CR-01 for changes or corrections in PAN data.
Step 1: Visit the Protean PAN services portal.
Step 2: Select the PAN Change Request option and enter your existing PAN and other required applicant details.
Step 3: A temporary Token Number will be generated and sent to your registered email ID. Use it to continue with the PAN change request.
Step 4: Select the fields that need correction or update and enter the revised details.
Step 5: Choose the applicable submission mode, upload or provide the required supporting documents, and complete the prescribed authentication process.
Step 6: Pay the applicable fee and submit the PAN correction request.
Step 7: Save the acknowledgement/reference details to track the application status.
When you have applied for a PAN card on the UTIITSL website, you need to update the PAN card details on the UTIITSL website by following the below process:
Step 1: Visit the UTIITSL website and click on ‘Apply for Changes/ Correction in PAN Data’ tab.
Step 2: Select the mode of submission of documents, enter your PAN number, select the PAN card mode and click the ‘Submit’ button.
Step 3: Once the request is registered, you will receive a reference number. Click on ‘OK’.
Step 4: Remember to tick the fields that requires to be updated or corrected. Enter the updated or correct personal details. Click on ‘Next Step’ once the details are entered.
Step 5: Address will be updated as per your Aadhaar card. Enter your contact details and click on ‘Next Step’.
Step 6: Enter the PAN number and verification and click the ‘Next Step’ button.
Step 7: Upload the documents and click the ‘Submit’ button.
Step 8: Verify the details on the form and click on the ‘Make Payment’ button.
Step 9: Select the mode of online payment and make the payment. A success message will be displayed once the payment is successfully made. Take a print out of the form.
You will receive a text message on your registered mobile number when your PAN card is dispatched via post.
Please note: If you choose the ‘Physical (Forward Application with documents physically)’ option, you will have to take a print out of the form, affix photograph and signature, attach the documents to the form and post them to any one of the following nearest UTIITSL offices:

Many applicants incorrectly assume that PAN corrections can be completed directly through the Income Tax e-Filing portal. However, the portal has strict operational limitations. The instant e-PAN facility available on the Income Tax portal is primarily meant for fresh PAN allotments.
PAN profile corrections, demographic updates and reprint requests cannot be processed directly through the Income Tax e-Filing portal.
The Government of India has authorised only two entities for PAN card correction and PAN update services — Protean eGov Technologies Limited (formerly NSDL e-Gov) and UTI Infrastructure Technology And Services Limited (UTIITSL).

To file for PAN card update offline, follow this step-by-step guide:

The PAN card correction fee depends on the submission mode and whether you require a physical PAN card or only an e-PAN. A no-change PAN reprint is available through a separate reprint facility and costs ₹50 for an Indian communication address and ₹959 for a foreign communication address.
