The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is a one-stop solution for applying to various educational schemes and scholarship services starting from student application, application processing, sanction of scholarship or scheme benefits and disbursal of scholarships to the eligible students.
The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is taken as a ‘Mission Mode Project’ under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). It is a common portal containing various Central Government, University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and state government scholarships schemes.
The NSP ensures timely disbursement of scholarships to students and avoids duplication in processing. It aims to create a transparent database of scholars and harmonise different scholarships schemes and norms. The scholarships are disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer to the eligible students.
The NSP provides the following benefits:
New applicants/students need to first register on the NSP to apply for the schemes available on the portal. Students can apply or renew for a scheme on the NSP by logging into the portal only after registering on it. The process of registration on the NSP is as follows:
Step 1: Go to the NSP portal and click the ‘New Registration’ option on the top of the home page.
Step 2: The ‘Guidelines for Registration on National Scholarship Portal’ page will open.
Step 3: Read the complete guidelines, tick/select the undertakings provided under the ‘Undertaking by Applicants or Parent/Guardian’ head on the bottom of the page and click on the ‘Continue’ button.
Step 4: The ‘Fresh Registration Application’ form will open. Fill the details such as the name of the applicant, date of birth, email ID, mobile number, bank details and select the scheme type, gender, state of domicile and scholarship category.
Step 5: Select the Identification Detail (Aadhaar Number or Bank Account if the student does not have an Aadhaar Number), upload the bank passbook copy (if the Bank Account option is selected), and tick the verification and click the ‘Register’ button.
Step 6: The ‘Student Application ID’ and ‘Password’ are sent to the applicant’s mobile number.
With this, the registration on the NSP will be complete, and the student can apply for the schemes available on the NSP by logging into the portal by entering the ‘Student Application ID’ and ‘Password’.
The scholarships available on the NSP are also known as NSP Scholarships. The scholarships available on the portal is categorised under three heads, i.e. Central Government schemes, state government schemes, and UGC/AICTE schemes.
The Central schemes are listed under the particular Ministry or department of the Central Government offering the scholarships.
The state schemes are listed under different states that offer state government scholarships.
The UGC/AICTE schemes are listed under two heads, i.e. University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Each scheme on the portal has information of the Scheme Closing Date, Defective Application Verification Date and Institute Verification Date. The Scheme closing date will show either the ‘scheme open till’ date or ‘scheme closed on’ date, respectively. The scheme’s guidelines and the FAQ documents are listed below each scheme.
The process for applying for a scheme on the NSP is as follows:
Step 1: Visit the NSP and click the ‘Login’ option on top of the home page.
Step 2: Select the academic year that you want to apply for obtaining the scholarship under a scheme.
Step 3: Log in to the NPS Portal by entering the Applicant ID, and Password received during registration. Enter the captcha and click on the ‘Login’ button.
Step 4: Verify the OTP sent on your registered mobile number.
Step 5: Change your profile password.
Step 6: A user dashboard will open. Click on the ‘Application Form’ to fill the respective application.
Step 7: Fill in all the details in the respective application form, upload the required documents and click on the ‘Final Submit’ button.
For the renewal of a scholarship on NSP, the students need to click on the ‘Login’ button on the home page and select the academic year for which the scholarship needs to be renewed. The students will have to log in using their ‘Application ID’ and ‘Password’ and fill the renewal application, upload the required documents and submit it.
