Budget 2024-25: Three crore more houses will be provided under the PM Awas Yojana in rural and urban areas. Under the PM Awas Yojana Urban 2.0, the housing needs of 1 crore urban middle-class and poor families will be addressed with an investment of Rs.10 lakh crore. This will include the central assistance of Rs.2.2 lakh crore in the next 5 years. 

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a social welfare scheme launched by the Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in 2015. The government launched this scheme to provide housing at an affordable price to the weaker sections of the society, lower-income group people, urban poor, and rural poor. 

The PMAY aims to provide pucca houses with basic amenities such as water supply, toilet, kitchen and electricity to the homeless families and households living in kutcha and dilapidated houses. This scheme involves the construction of around 20 million houses at affordable prices by 2022. It also provides subsidies and loans at low-interest rates to the beneficiaries for the construction of houses.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana  has two components:

• Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U) – The PMAY-U provides housing for all living in urban areas.
• Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) – The PMAY-G provides housing for all living in rural areas.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Eligibility

The families that come under the following criteria are eligible to apply for this scheme:

• Economically Weaker Section (EWS) 
• Low-Income Groups (LIG) 
• Minority people, including Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). 
• Families living in a kutcha house as per SECC (Socio-Economic and Caste Census) data.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Application Process

The people residing in rural areas can apply for PMAY-G by contacting the village ward member or visiting the Gram Panchayat. These authorities will provide the details related to the PMAY application. The individuals need to fill up and submit the PMAY application form to their respective Gram Panchayats. 

Individuals residing in urban areas can apply for PMAY-U online by following the below process:

• Visit the official PMAY-U website. 
• Click on the ‘Citizen Assessment’ tab on the home page. 
• Under the ‘Apply Online’ option, select any of the four sub-components of PMAY-U under which you want to apply. 
• Enter the Aadhaar details and click on the ‘Check’ button.
• Fill in the details of the application form and click on the ‘Save’ button.
• Enter the captcha code and click on the ‘Save’ button.
• The application submission will be complete. 

After the completion of the application process under the PMAY, the applicants will receive a reference number. The applicants can use the reference number to track the status of their applications.

Check Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana List

The applicants can know if they are selected as PMAY scheme beneficiaries by checking the PMAY list.

Process to Check Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) List

The PMAY-G scheme applicants can check their beneficiary status in two ways-

• With registration number
• Without registration number

The process to view the PMAY-G list with registration number is as follows:

• Visit the official PMAY-G website. 
• Click on the ‘Stakeholders’ tab on the homepage and select the ‘IAY/PMAYG Beneficiary’ option from the drop-down list. 

• On the next page, enter the ‘Registration Number’ and click the ‘Submit’ button.

If the applicant’s name is there as a beneficiary in the PMAY list, the details will reflect on the screen.

The process to view the PMAY-G list without a registration number is as follows:

• Visit the official PMAY-G website. 
• Click on the ‘Stakeholders’ tab on the homepage and select the ‘IAY/PMAYG Beneficiary’ option from the drop-down list. 
• On the next page, click on the ‘Advanced Search’ button.

• Enter the details such as State, district, block, panchayat, name, BPL number, etc., and click on the ‘Search’ button.

The final list will be displayed. The applicants can check for their names in the final list to know the beneficiary status.

Process to Check Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U) List

The process to view the PMAY-U list is as follows:

• Visit the official PMAY-U website. 
• Click on the ‘Search Beneficiary’ tab on the homepage and select the ‘Search by Name’ option.

• Enter the ‘Aadhaar Number’ and click on the ‘Show’ button.

The PMAY-U beneficiary results will be displayed on the screen.
